Adult Day Care services

Nonotuck Resource Associates, Inc.’s continues growth with new hires at Kingston location

September 11, 2014 //  by admin

KINGSTON, MA and FLORENCE, MA…

For more than 40 years Nonotuck Resource Associates has helped transform the lives of hundreds of people with intellectual and physical disabilities by offering the personalized service of shared living and Adult Family Care (AFC). To meet the ever increasing demand from families for these non-traditional, value based services, Nonotuck recently added Kelly Thorndike, Ryan O’Kane and Alicia Thatcher to the staff of its Kingston office at 63 Smiths Lane in Kingston, Massachusetts.

Kelly Thorndike joined Nonotuck as an AFC RN over the summer. A Rockland resident, she graduated with a nursing degree from Emmanuel College in Boston in 2003 and previously worked at Falmouth Hospital, the Shriner’s Burn Hospital for Children and at Norwood Hospital.

Ryan O’Kane, a Pembroke resident, also started with Nonotuck over the summer as an AFC Care Manager. He previously worked as a counselor for people with developmental disabilities at Friendship Home Inc. in Norwell.

Alicia Thatcher joined Nonotuck in April as an AFC Care Manager. She has earned degrees in psychology from Eastern Nazarene College and in teaching from UMass, Dartmouth. Prior to Nonotuck, Alicia worked at Southcoast YMCA in New Bedford and in the Wareham school system. She is also a noted volley ball coach.

“It goes far beyond having the professional qualifications to do the kind of work we do at Nonotuck. It requires a unique combination of character and caring. Kelly, Ryan and Alicia have those attributes and we are delighted to have them on board,” said George Fleischner, executive director of Nonotuck Resource Associates, Inc.

Nonotuck offers Shared Living, Adult Family Care and Day Services for families who choose to care for their loved ones suffering with Alzheimer’s, autism, brain injuries, cancer, muscular dystrophy and other intellectual and physical disabilities at home. Caregivers care. Nonotuck honors caregivers as part of National Caregivers Month

December 23, 2013 //  by admin

AUBURN, MA AND FLORENCE, MA…

For more than 40 years Nonotuck Resource Associates has helped transform the lives of hundreds of people with intellectual and physical disabilities by offering the personalized service of shared living and Adult Family Care. As part of National Caregivers Month in November, Nonotuck honored 40 of its caregivers in the greater Worcester area with a celebratory dinner at its Auburn offices at 4 Faith Avenue on November 20.

At the dinner, each Nonotuck caregiver was presented with a congratulatory thank you card from Nonotuck Board of Directors, the CEO and all Nonotuck staff written in every language of this diverse group of Nonotuck caregivers. These care givers reside in Central Mass, principally in the greater Worcester area and they were all honored equally for their commitment, love and service. In addition, Nonotuck made a $500 donation each to four food bank organizations that cover western Mass, north central Mass, the Worcester Area, and the southeastern/Cape area of Mass on behalf of these Nonotuck Caregivers.

“Our caregivers do more than open up their homes to care for people from all walks of life. They literally share their lives with the people we serve. In many cases, they become like family,” said George Fleischner, CEO of Nonotuck Resource Associates, Inc. “We cannot thank our caregivers enough for all they do. They are the backbone of our organization.”

According to the Caregiver Action Network website, there are as many as 90 million family caregivers in U.S. today. That means that two out of every five adults—or 39 percent–are family caregivers.  That’s an increase from 30 percent back in 2010. In recognition of the role caregivers play, the Obama administration declared November 2013 as National Caregivers Month.

“The sad reality is that not every family is able to care for their elderly or disabled family member,” said Fleischner. When the family is unable to be the caregiver, Nonotuck will find an out of family home to provide care to the person in a dignified and loving way. “You just can’t put a dollar value on the critical role Nonotuck caregivers play in the lives of so many people across Massachusetts.”

Based in Florence, Massachusetts but with offices across the Commonwealth, Nonotuck offers Shared Living and Adult Family Care for families who choose to care for their loved ones who have Alzheimer’s, autism, brain injuries, cancer, muscular dystrophy and other intellectual and physical disabilities at home.

For complete information on Nonotuck Resource Associates, including office locations, you can visit www.nonotuck.com or call Nonotuck’s corporate office at 413-586-5256.

HYANNIS, MA and FLORENCE, MA…

For more than 40 years Nonotuck Resource Associates has helped transform the lives of hundreds of people with intellectual and physical disabilities by offering the personalized service of shared living and Adult Family Care. To best serve families on Cape Cod and to meet the ever increasing demand for its services, Nonotuck has opened a new satellite office at 209 Main Street, Suite 1, Hyannis, MA.

“We have worked with a number of families on the Cape through our South Shore office, which was in Brockton and is now in Kingston. As more and more families are faced with the need to care for an elderly or afflicted family member, the need for a permanent presence on the Cape became quite apparent,” said George Fleischner, executive director of Florence, Mass.-based Nonotuck Resource Associates, Inc. “Our brand new Hyannis office has an office manager and will be staffed with registered nurses and adult family care (AFC) providers to begin providing care immediately to Cape families.”

Nonotuck’s Hyannis office will be managed by Tom Maloney, RN. Maloney began working at Nonotuck over the summer at the South Shore office. His experience as an RN extends more than 25 years, working with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Shriver Center in Waltham, the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA and L.A.D.D.E.R.S. in Cambridge, MA. Currently, a South Easton resident, he was recognized in 2010 as an ARC Distinguished Citizen for work with families and autism.

“With a permanent office on the Cape, we have the resources to help families provide the care their loved one needs while keeping them at home with their family,” said Maloney. “I look forward to spreading the word about Nonotuck to Cape families and healthcare providers so more families can utilize our services.”

Nonotuck offers Shared Living, Adult Family Care and Day Services for families who choose to care for their loved ones suffering with Alzheimer’s, autism, brain injuries, cancer, muscular dystrophy and other intellectual and physical disabilities at home. In addition to Hyannis, Nonotuck has offices in Central and Western Massachusetts as well as on Boston’s South Shore.
