Needham, MA-based free seminar. Aging in place and with grace – how to retrofit your home for comfort and safety.

Concerned about falling in your shower?  Trouble climbing the stairs? Anxious about the height of your counters and stove?

A free, objective and educational seminar will provide some insight on retrofitting to complement your shifting mobility and lifestyle. The workshop will be led by Brian Harvey of Harvey Home Modifications is a Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist from the National Association of Home Builders.   He is an EPA Lead-Safe Renovator, and has numerous years of experience in residential construction.

The seminar will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the education and training center of FirstLight Home Care of West Suburban Boston, 109 Highland Avenue, Suite 301, Needham, MA  02494.

There is ample, free parking both in the front and rear of the office building. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

The session will be augmented by Wendy Adlerstein, LSW, who has more than 20 years experience in working with seniors. She holds a B.A. from Clark University, in Psychology with a concentration in Sociology and Human Services. In addition to her Massachusetts License in Social Work, Wendy holds a Certificate in Gerontology from the Worcester Consortium Gerontology Program.

 

She is a member of the Aging Life Care Association (ALCA), formerly the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers.  Finally, Wendy is a Certified Dementia Practitioner® in good standing from the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.

 

Retrofitting options to be discussed will include Wheelchair Ramps, Vertical Platform Lifts, Residential Elevators, Tub-safety Conversions, Door Widening, Grab Bars and Hand Rails, Accessible Bathroom Remodels, Accessible Kitchen Remodels, First Floor Bedrooms / Additions, Improved Lighting, and Temperature and Air Quality Systems.

This interactive presentation encourages participants to ask questions and provide their own anecdotes.
