NORWELL, MA…
If you think of catching a few Zs during the summer, it more often than not refers to a nap, typically on the beach or in a backyard hammock. Recent visitors to Coastal Nissan, located at 109 Accord Drive in Norwell, Massachusetts, caught more than a few “Zs” during the course of the Z Club of New England’s Cruise Day.
The “Zs” in question refer to the name affectionately given to a line of sports cars issued by Nissan Motors since 1969, the first being the Datsun 240Z. On Sunday, July 31, more than 20 proud owners of newer and classic Z cars showed offer their vehicles at the Norwell dealership.
“This was one of the best turnouts we’ve had for Z cruises,” said John Jeffries, president of the Z Club of New England. “We had a real wide variety of Z cars on display, from the original 240Zs to the new 370Zs.”
In addition to owners showing off their “rides”, the event included a cruise throughout the South Shore town of Hingham, topped off by a stop on Turkey Hill. Following the ride, the group met at Not Your Average Joe’s in Norwell for lunch.
“The Z car owner is a little different than other sports cars,” said Jim Della Volpe, a Z Club of New England member and the proud owner of a 2006 350Z. “Z car owners are not necessarily mechanics or gearheads. We come from all walks of life and we have one thing in common, a love of Z cars.”
According to Wikipedia, “The Z-car is a series of sports cars manufactured by Nissan Motors Ltd. The original Z was sold in October 1969 in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z and was exported as the Datsun 240Z. Since 2009 Nissan has manufactured the newest Z, the 370Z… Nissan Z cars currently hold the record for the best selling sports car series of all time with over 2 million cars sold.”
“The Z cars are truly a phenomenon. Customers may walk onto our lot looking for an SUV for their family or maybe a van for their business, but you’d be surprised how many of those folks ask what we have for Z cars on the lot,” said Tom Norton, owner of Coastal Nissan. “We’re thrilled with the turnout for this Z cruise and look forward to hosting another, probably this fall.”
