Edgewood LifeCare Community Awards Scholarships to Eight High School Students

September 23, 2015 //  by admin

Treasure Cove Scholarship Recipients 2015Edgewood LifeCare Community, an award-winning non-profit senior living community in North Andover, recently awarded scholarships to eight graduating high school seniors, who are employed part-time at Edgewood and continuing on to higher education this fall.

Each received a $500 scholarship stipend to continue their education at a college or vocational school. Recipients had to meet several eligibility requirements, which included being employed at Edgewood for at least six months and working a minimum of 15 hours a week.

The scholarship recipients are employees in Edgewood’s Culinary and Nursing Services departments and include Lawrence residents Carina Anziani who will be attending UMass Lowell, Ana Castillo attending Barry University, Jennifer Flete and Emily Lara attending Northern Essex Community College, Kiana Morales attending Mass. College of Liberal Arts and Dominique Ortiz attending Simmons College.

North Andover resident Matt Caterino will be attending Suffolk University and Laura DelleChiaie of Haverhill will be attending Worcester State University.

Scholarship funding was raised by Edgewood’s Treasure Cove committee. Treasure Cove, an initiative of 10 Edgewood residents, is an on-site consignment shop. Edgewood residents and family members make donations of household items, furniture, and jewelry to Treasure Cove, which are then sold to in-house customers. Treasure Cove holds a sale on the first Monday of every month, and the proceeds are put towards scholarships.

“As our first recipients of Treasure Cove dollars, these students are leading the way for what we anticipate as a bright and successful future collaboration between residents and staff. We thank them for the jobs they have performed so well and wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavors,” said Rachel Penner of Edgewood’s Treasure Cove Committee.

The Treasure Cove committee established the consignment shop in July 2014, and has raised thousands of dollars from the Monday sales they have held so far.

“Many residents who downsized from a large family home, have storage lockers at Edgewood which are chock full of surplus furniture and other items. Residents are delighted that their donations to the Treasure Cove consignment shop will ultimately help graduating seniors reach their educational goals,” explained Kathleen D’Amico, Edgewood’s Marketing Director.

The Edgewood Difference

Edgewood offers independent living, health care and support services, which empower members to be the architects of their own well-being. Edgewood is dedicated to providing a well-rounded, intellectually stimulating and physically active environment for older adults. Members enjoy entertainment, trips, wellness programs and a wide range of unique lectures, classes and films, which are offered on an ongoing basis through the Edgewood LifeLong Learning (ELL) program. Many of these programs are also open to the public.

As the only LifeCare community in the Merrimack Valley, Edgewood offers refined independent apartment and cottage home living for active older adults as well as short term rehabilitation and long term care at the Meadows Health Center.
