Local author and Edgewood LifeCare Community resident Mariève Rugo has recently published her second book of poetry, “The Only Afterlife”.

Readings by the author will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at the Andover Bookstore, 89R Main Street in Andover, and Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Edgewood LifeCare Community, 575 Osgood Street in North Andover.

At the Edgewood event, complimentary refreshments will be served and copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Released in July, “The Only Afterlife” published by Lynx House Press of Washington, is Ms. Rugo’s second book. It has already received a Runner Up award in the Blue Lynx contest.

The 68-page compilation of poems, of which 39 out of 48 have been pre-published, took a decade to write. “The Only Afterlife” has a recurrent theme of the author’s childhood and the war in England. Ms. Rugo was born in Romania and lived in France, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary and England during her youth. She spoke four languages and had seven parents. Within the framework of both personal and international history, Ms. Rugo examines memory, love, family, war and death.

Ms. Rugo’s first book of poems, entitled “Fields of Vision”, was published by The University of Alabama Press and won The University of Alabama competition in 1983. Her work has appeared in such journals as The Kenyon Review, The Southern Review, The Georgia Review and Chelsea.

Ms. Rugo has taught at Brown University and a number of other venues, including St. Paul’s School and Bucknell University. Formerly of Cambridge, MA, Ms. Rugo resides at Edgewood LifeCare Community.

The Edgewood Difference

Edgewood offers independent living, health care and support services, which empower members to be the architects of their own well-being. Edgewood is dedicated to providing a well-rounded, intellectually stimulating and physically active environment for older adults. Members enjoy entertainment, trips, wellness programs and a wide range of unique lectures, classes and films, which are offered on an ongoing basis through the Edgewood LifeLong Learning (ELL) program. Many of these programs are also open to the public.

As the only LifeCare community in the Merrimack Valley, Edgewood offers refined independent apartment and cottage home living for active older adults as well as short term rehabilitation and long term care at the Meadows Health Center.
