DirectBuy offers gemstones, jewelry for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries and other special occasion gifts.

January 16, 2009 //  by admin

MERRILLVILLE, IN…

When you think of DirectBuy, most people think of home improvement projects and big-time savings for members by enabling them to buy directly from manufacturers and their authorized suppliers. What’s not as well known is the variety of items members can buy from more than 700 (500 for Canada) top brands. That long list includes gemstones and jewelry, an item of interest for many consumers around Valentine’s Day, anniversaries and birthdays.

“The beauty of gemstones is not just in how nice they look, but what the stones symbolize. For example, garnet is the birthstone for January and for second anniversaries and represents strength and vitality. So, even if you don’t know much about jewelry, you can select a gemstone as a gift based on its meaning and the recipient will be touched by both how it looks and the thought behind it,” said Sara Shragal, of DirectBuy.

Some of the more popular gemstones, and their corresponding meanings, include:

  • Emerald – green, birthstone of May and the 20th anniversary gem; represents serenity.
  •  Diamond, colorless or pale, the birthstone of April; represents courage and true love.
  • Sapphire, available in any color (red with deep blue is most popular), the birthstone of September; represents peace and happiness.
  • Ruby, red, the birthstone of July; represents love and wisdom.
  • Pearl, white with iridescent pink, but available in a variety of colors; birthstone of June and the 12th and 30th anniversary gem, represents modesty.
  •  Aquamarine, medium blue with a touch of green, the birthstone of March; represents trust, harmony and friendship.

In addition to gemstones, DirectBuy also carries a variety of jewelry, ranging from high-end and everyday watches to engagement rings, lockets to bracelets.

“We’ve earned our reputation for helping people build the homes of their dreams at low, insider prices. With our selection of gemstones, we can make birthdays, anniversaries and, yes, Valentine’s Day a special memory with our gemstone and jewelry selections,” adds Shragal.

In addition to fine gems and jewelry, DirectBuy offers everything you might possibly want to give for a present at prices direct from the manufacturers and their authorized suppliers. If you do need some assistance in selecting a gift, DirectBuy employs product specialists and designers, who are at your service.

DirectBuy offers “play” areas for parents and children.

January 14, 2009 //  by admin

CHICAGO, GURNEE, HOFFMAN ESTATES, NAPERVILLE, TINLEY PARK, IL …

By purchasing directly from the manufacturer, DirectBuy members can not only save a lot of money, but enjoy the process as well. And while it can be a lot of fun to pick out your new kitchen, the new floors for your bathroom, it also requires your full attention. That’s a luxury members with children don’t always have.

The five DirectBuy franchises of the greater Chicago—DirectBuy of Chicago North, DirectBuy of Tinley Park, DirectBuy of Hoffman Estates, DirectBuy of DuPage County and DirectBuy of Gurnee—have developed a “Kids Zone” area in their respective clubs so parents can focus on the task at hand and kids can enjoy the DirectBuy experience, too.

Though not a supervised area, the Kids Zone features a number of things to keep school-age children occupied and entertained: books, puzzles and games. The Kids Zone also includes a flat screen television so children of members can watch movies or play games.

“Let’s face it, most kids would rather go to the dentist than watch their parents shop for their next home improvement project. By the same token, it’s difficult for members with children to get the most out of the experience and do the research they need to do if they’re concerned about the kids getting fidgety. The Kids Zone gives children of DirectBuy members a place to play games, watch TV or even make new friends with other members’ kids while the grown-ups have their ‘fun’,” said I.J. Sell, owner of DirectBuy of Tinley Park.

Creating fun things to do for children is nothing new for DirectBuy. DirectBuy franchises across North America regularly donate equipment to youth organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCAs, and children’s hospitals.

“Because we are entrenched in the greater Chicago community, we have an even greater incentive to make this a one-of-a-kind, unique shopping experience because many of the members are our friends, neighbors, even relatives,” said Dave Kushner, owner of DirectBuy of Hoffman Estates. “The Kids Zone and donations to youth groups are just an extension of that philosophy.”

Since 1971, DirectBuy showrooms have offered members the opportunity to enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products and accessories by buying wholesale, directly from the manufacturer. With five convenient locations in the greater Chicago area (Chicago, Gurnee, Hoffman Estates, Naperville, and Tinley Park), consumers can enjoy a comfortable, country-club setting, where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.

For more information on a DirectBuy membership, you can call 1-800-DIRECTBUY or visit http://www.directbuychicago.com/.

About DirectBuy

Since 1971, DirectBuy has helped hundreds of thousands of families enjoy a better quality of life, enabling them to buy directly from more than 700 manufacturers and their authorized suppliers. Buying direct makes members’ hard-earned money to go much further, while having the selection and choice not available at any retail store. Access to confidential prices, local suppliers, and unparalleled selection helps make members’ dream projects a reality.  It’s a comfortable, country-club setting, where you finally have the financial control of buying direct. The five DirectBuy showrooms serving the greater Chicago area are part of more than 160 locations throughout North America.

Consumers interested in becoming members may obtain a Visitor’s Pass to attend an Open House by visiting http://www.directbuychicago.com/.

Valentines Day dates for $10 or less

January 14, 2009 //  by admin

NORWELL, MA…

Just because we’re stuck in the middle of a recession, doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. In fact, there are many ways to celebrate this lover’s holiday without breaking the bank. And according to love expert Paul Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating–one of the world’s largest brick-and-mortar dating services with more than 60 offices nationwide—many of those date ideas for Valentine’s Day won’t even require a trip to the ATM.

“Sure, the economy could be in better shape. But should that really matter when you’re sharing Valentine’s Day with someone you care about? We all know the answer to that one. Of course not,” said Falzone. “When it comes to Valentine’s Day, if people start to think with their hearts and not their wallets, they’ll discover a world of possibilities for romantic Valentine’s Day dates.”

For example:

  • Sunrise or sunset trip to the park or another location where you can snuggle up on a bench with comforter and hot chocolate to watch the sun come up or down.
  • Laundry date: Trip to the local laundromat; clothes have got to be cleaned anyway. Bring a picnic basket. Sharing washers and dryers recoups any expenses.
  • Attend a poetry reading at your local library or bookstore, many of which are free—save the price of any lattes or coffees. Your local newspaper’s calendar section should have the info. Better yet, find your favorite poem, dress in a black turtle neck, buy some instant espresso from the grocery store and host your own poetry reading.
  • Netflix chick flick movie marathon – Get a trial Netflix membership and rent all the chick flick/Valentine’s Day classics (An Affair to Remember, It Happened One Night, Casablanca).
  • Valentine’s Day pot luck – Share your Valentine’s Day meal with two or three other couples with each bringing a dish.
  • Sledding (not just for kids)
  • Ice skating (some outdoor and indoor rinks are less than $5 per person if you have your own skates)

“When we were kids, Valentine’s Day meant cut-out hearts that you snuck into the locker of the person you had the crush on. We lost track of that ‘it’s the thought that counts’ approach to the day. Frankly, when it comes to Valentine’s Day, the only bottom line that really counts is that you’re with the one you love,” said Falzone.

Groomathon to benefit MSPCA. DirectBuy of BostonSouth, Rockland, to host pet grooming event on Saturday, Jan. 31

January 12, 2009 //  by admin

ROCKLAND, MA…

On Saturday, January 31, it will truly be a dog’s day at the DirectBuy of Boston South located near the Rockland/Hingham line and just off Route 228. At that time, the local Zoomin’ Groomin’ van will be at the 10 Commerce Road location to offer grooming services for the pets of DirectBuy members and the general public. All proceeds from the event will go to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

“Winter months are kind of a tough time for keeping your pets clean. You don’t want to wash them outside and unless you’ve got a dedicated area in your house for cleaning your pet, it means using one of your tubs or sinks,” said John Massaria, owner of DirectBuy of Boston South. “By hosting this event, we’re providing a service for our pet-owning members and pet owners from the general public and we are raising money for a very worthy cause, the MSPCA.”

The pet grooming event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as the Zoomin’ Groomin vans will be in the parking lot of DirectBuy of Boston South. While there is no charge to have your pets groomed, the recommended donation is $50-$100. One hundred percent of that money will be donated to MSPCA.

“We’re pet groomers by trade, but the reality is we’re pet lovers, too. An event like this not only provides a nice service for fellow pet lovers and gives us a chance to showcase our service, but it also raises awareness to the good work the MSPCA does and you can’t put a price tag on that,” said Jeff Loomis, owner of Zoomin Groomin franchise.

To arrange for the grooming of your pet and to participate in this event, please call Zoomin Groomin Mobile Pet Spa, (781) 792-1888.

DirectBuy franchises offer members the opportunity to enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products and accessories by purchasing wholesale, directly from the manufacturer. Can’t buy me love…Valentine’s Day in a recession.

January 6, 2009 //  by admin

NORWELL, MA…

With Valentine’s Day coming in the not-so-distant future, many recession-strapped Valentines are wondering what they can do for their sweetie this year. Especially since fancy dinners at five-star restaurants, bouquets of flowers and treating your Valentine to a day of pampering at spa aren’t exactly in a lot of people’s budgets these days.

Still, according to love expert Paul Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating–one of the world’s largest brick-and-mortar dating services with more than 60 offices nationwide–just because times might be tough, it doesn’t mean romance must suffer.

“Valentine’s Day is about love and romance. Somehow that got twisted into how much you spend. Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s truly the thought that counts. And if the economy has made people stop and really put some thought into the little things they can do for that special someone in their life on Valentine’s Day, they’re going to be pleasantly surprised both with how little it costs and the results,” says Falzone.

Here are some budget-friendly, thoughtful gestures you might want to try this Valentine’s Day:

  • Leave a “racy” picture on your mate’s cell phone.
  • Text a romantic message at a time of day when you know things get rather hectic and your sweetie could use a pick-me-up.
  • Leave a chocolate or single rose on your Valentine’s pillow.
  • Use a bar of soap to draft a love note on your bathroom mirror.
  • Eat in for Valentine’s day with candles providing the only light. Better yet, spread out a blanket and have your meal as a picnic on the living room floor—even better if you have a fireplace.
  • Instead of a day at the spa, take turns giving each other back rubs.
  • Have a glass of your loved one’s favorite drink ready and waiting for them when they get home. If your loved one likes beer or wine, serve it in a frosted glass—unless they prefer it warm.
  •  Celebrate Valentine’s Day on February 13 or 15 to make it “your holiday” and not one shared with the rest of the world.
  • Pick one household chore your Valentine usually does and surprise them by doing it before they get a chance to (e.g. making the bed). It may not sound romantic, but the thought will most certainly count.

“You know, you keep hearing about the doom and gloom of today’s economy, but it actually presents a lot of opportunities. One is to show the person you love how much by using your imagination and not your checkbook. And that, my friends, is the secret to making Valentine’s Day one he or she will always remember,” said Falzone.

Over the years, DirectBuy has been recognized for giving families the opportunity to buy directly from the manufacturer and save hundreds, even thousands, on home improvement projects, furniture, appliance and many other household items. DirectBuy has also earned a reputation for its generosity in the communities they serve. A fine example of that is DirectBuy of Tinley Park for its recent donation to Catholic Charities and Goodwill.

DirectBuy of Tinley Park donated 12 computers, complete with keyboard and monitors, to Goodwill, located in Orland Park, Illinois. In addition, they also donated several brand new pieces of furniture and appliances to Catholic Charities, including a washing machine, twin bedroom set and living room fireplace.

“We’ve been supporters of Catholic Charities and Goodwill for a long time now. Yet with these difficult economic times we’re currently in, we wanted to do a little more this year, something that went beyond writing a check. By contributing furniture and appliances to Catholic Charities and the computers to Goodwill, we’re providing items that we know will be put to good use,” said I.J. Sell, owner of DirectBuy of Tinley Park.

That type of generosity is fairly standard for DirectBuy. Showroom owners nationwide donate to any number of organizations, and have shown a particular affinity for making contributions to children/family-oriented organizations like Boys & Girls Club, YMCA and children’s hospitals.

Since 1971, DirectBuy franchises have offered members the opportunity to enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products and accessories by buying wholesale, directly from the manufacturer. With five convenient locations in the greater Chicago area (Chicago, Gurnee, Hoffman Estates, Naperville, and Tinley Park), consumers can enjoy a comfortable, country-club setting, where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.

DirectBuy of Greater Vancouver donates washer/dryer to Servants Anonymous Society of Surrey.

December 30, 2008 //  by admin

COQUITLAM, BC…

While DirectBuy has made it’s name by giving families the opportunity to buy directly from the manufacturer and save hundreds, even thousands, on home improvement projects, furniture, appliance and many other household items, it’s reputation for generosity also speaks for itself. A fine example of that is DirectBuy of Greater Vancouver’s recent donation of a washer/dryer to Servants Anonymous Society of Surrey.

The Servants Anonymous Society, founded ten years ago, was set up to help sexually exploited young women get their lives back on track by providing secure housing and teaching them life skills. Servants Anonymous’ ASK Centre for Learning is designed to provide each participant with an opportunity to learn the personal and occupational skills required to help them obtain and maintain employment, return to school, and/or raise their children on a full-time basis.

“The Servants Anonymous Society is doing phenomenal work with these young women, many of whom come from very troubled backgrounds,” Peter Ruetz, owner of DirectBuy of Greater Vancouver. “While the retail value of the washer/dryer we donated is about $1800, you really can’t put a dollar value on helping a person get their life back and that’s really what they do at Servants Anonymous.”

That type of generosity is fairly standard for DirectBuy. Showroom owners across North America donate to any number of organizations, and have shown a particular affinity for making contributions to children/family-oriented organizations like Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, children’s hospitals and the Salvation Army.

“One of the keys to helping these young women get their lives back on track is providing them with a safe and clean environment in which to learn life skills. Something as simple as being able to take care of your own laundry can go a long way towards that young woman standing up on her own two feet. DirectBuy’s generous donation will go a long way in helping us help these women,” said Kelly Ferguson, facilities manager at Servants Anonymous Society.

Since 1971, DirectBuy has helped consumers enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products, and accessories, by providing an avenue to purchase directly from the manufacturer. With four convenient locations serving the Greater Vancouver area, DirectBuy offers consumers a comfortable, country-club setting, where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.
