Baseball dad launches fundraising tour of MLB stadiums to honor fallen son

MLB’s Nike RBI program to receive funds from Jackson Yelle Family Foundation as part of Eastham, MA man’s tribute to his son.

Many people have done tours to visit all 30 Major League Baseball (MLB). Few have the purpose—more like a mission–of Scott Yelle as he continues the tour he began with his late son Jackson in an effort to raise funds for the Jackson Yelle Foundation and MLB’s Nike Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program.

Jackson Yelle, a baseball player at Elon University in North Carolina, was struck by a hit-and-run driver on April 30, 2023. He was 21. The Yelle family formed the Jackson Yelle Family Foundation, 501(c)3 non-profit organization, to put good into the world by giving to causes Jackson would care about.

“Jackson had a zest for life and baseball. I can’t think of a better way to honor him than by finishing our tour of all 30 MLB stadiums—we had visited 12—and helping other young men and women grow through the game he loved, baseball,” said Scott Yelle, a sales and marketing consultant and charter boat skipper from Eastham, Massachusetts. “On March 31, I’ll be in Texas and will donate the first $1,000 check to the Nike RBI program and begin a three-month odyssey to visit the remaining stadiums.”

The Nike RBI program supports the development of young men and women through baseball and softball. Since its inception, the Nike RBI program has served approximately two million young people. Many Nike RBI alumni having played in MLB, including Jackie Bradley, Jr. (Kansas City Royals), Hunter Greene (Cincinnati Reds), Alek Thomas (Arizona Diamondbacks), and Dominic Smith (Washington Nationals).

After opening night in Texas, Yelle will attend and make $1,000 donations in the following cities: Miami (April 1); Tampa Bay (April 2); Philadelphia (April 3); Atlanta (April 6); Cincinnati (April 7); Pittsburgh (April 8); Toronto (April 9); Seattle (May 13); Arizona (May 14); Los Angeles (May 15 and 16th); Milwaukee (June 2); Chicago (June 4 and June 6); St. Louis (June 7); Kansas City (June 8); and Detroit (June 9).

As part of the donation ceremony at each stadium, Scott Yelle will wear a special t-shirt with an MLB logo and that of the Jackson Yelle Family Foundation with the number on the back representing the number that stadium represents on the tour. MLB has also arranged for Scott to be on the field at many of the stadiums for batting practice.

“This is a dream come true, Jackson’s dream,” said Yelle. “I welcome and invite friends, family, and baseball fans to visit me at the game. And if you can’t make it, you can follow the stadium tour on our website’s blog, Instagram and Facebook.”

Grand Re-Opening of OCES Volunteer Center in Plymouth on March 20th

BROCKTON AND PLYMOUTH, MA…Old Colony Elder Services (OCES) Volunteer Center Grand Re-Opening at 204 South Meadow Road in Plymouth will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce will co-host the event with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. 
 
Chamber of Commerce members, community service partners, volunteers, prospective volunteers and all community members are invited to attend the free open house. Light refreshments will be served. For example, OCES recruits and matches volunteers for South Shore Habitat for Humanity, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, local food banks and Veterans service agencies, and many other Community Service Partners are part of OCES’ RSVP of Plymouth County.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield announces new summer camp experience. Registration now open for Summer Camp Warsofsky 2024

MARSHFIELD, MA … Registration is now open for Summer Camp Warsofsky, the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield’s newly named summer camp for fun-filled adventures and lifelong memories in a wellness driven environment. 
 
Offering a traditional camp environment that is welcoming and accessible to all, the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield’s goal is to give every camper an opportunity for a successful camp experience – making new friends, trying new activities, becoming more confident and having fun.
 
Led by a dedicated and caring staff team, Summer Camp Warsofsky is a 10-week program which will be held June 17 – August 23, 2024 and is geared towards youth ages five to 14. Camp hours are 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Families can take advantage of weekly or daily options as well as an extended hour option from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.
 
New Camp Options
Sports, arts, swimming, outdoor adventure, STEM, new games and more are on the traditional day camp schedule at Summer Camp Warsofsky. New camp options include:
 
– Lower Camp Half and Full Day options are for children ages 5-6. Lower Camp Half Day runs from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and is a shorter version of the Club’s traditional day camp. Groups of five will be led by their counselors and participate in a variety of on-site activities.
 
– Middle Camp for ages 7-8 is a traditional day camp of on-site activities.
 
– Upper Camp for ages 9-11, is traditional day camp that provides older children the option of creating their own camp experience. Working with their counselors, campers “map out” their day/week to schedule activities, themes and special events.
 
– Volunteer Camp is a program specifically designed for ages 12-14 who want to develop their leadership skills in working with children and have the potential in the future to return as a staff person. Activities include assisting with camper group management and the set-up, clean-up and running of activities, on-site team building, off-site community volunteering, field trips and more. Interested “candidates” will be asked to submit an essay about why they are interested and then have an “interview” with Camp leadership and participate in basic training.
 
– Excursion Camps are for ages 7-14 and combine travel off-site for a special excursion for part of the day along with traditional on-site camp activities. A Golf excursion at Green Harbor Golf Course is offered for ages 7-11 the week of June 24-28, 2024. A River Adventure of kayaking, swimming and exploring for ages 12-14 is offered July 8-12, 2024 and July 29-August 2, 2024.
 
– R.A.M.S. Camp allows children with developmental or other challenges to participate in camp activities alongside their peers with varying levels of support. There is special focus on helping R.A.M.S. campers improve their social-emotional skills, community skills, life skills, recreation and leisure skills in a fun, safe and supportive environment with specially trained staff.

The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield’s air-conditioned facility includes a gymnasium and activity rooms and is set on an expansive campus that includes an outdoor pool, splash pad, multi-purpose courts, Molly Pavilion, Ninja course, mini skateboard ramp, playing fields, playground and swings.

BROCKTON AND PLYMOUTH, MA… Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), the largest provider of in-home and community-based services for older adults and people living with disabilities in Plymouth County and surrounding areas in Massachusetts, is Celebrating 50 Years of Care and Collaboration in 2024.
 
In anticipation of their 50th anniversary, OCES re-emphasized their vision, mission and core values which reflect their growth, expertise and ongoing dedication to the people, staff and communities they serve.

Milestones
Founded in 1974, OCES continues to grow and evolve. There have been many milestones over the years including: the creation of the Greater Brockton Area Hoarding Task Force; the establishment of the first Supportive Housing Program in Brockton; and the formalization of an Internship Program with Bridgewater State University – all of which continue today. In 2013, the first annual Elder Abuse Awareness event was held in Brockton. In the years that followed, Healthy Living Workshops, Buried in Treasures Workshops, Caregiver Support and other programs have been established. OCES opened a second office at 204 South Meadow Road in Plymouth featuring a dedicated Volunteer Center for volunteer recruitment for OCES as well as for other nonprofits, schools, and agencies in Southeastern MA.  
 
“In 2023, OCES served more than 25,287 older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout Plymouth County, providing them with essential services that increase independence and improve quality of life,” said Alisa DeLage, Chief Programs Officer.
 
Earlier this year, OCES expanded their Behavioral Health services with a new Elder Mental Health Outreach Team (EMHOT). EMHOT provides behavioral health and wellness supports to older adults and people with disabilities who may be isolated or encounter barriers that limit access to behavioral health care. To further increase the reach of the program, OCES has launched a 50th Anniversary fundraising campaign with a goal to raise $50K in support of expansion of the Behavioral Health and Wellness Programs.

Selecting the Right Rod End – Emerson Bearing Boston shares considerations for the Industrial Machinery, Automotive and Aerospace Industries

BOSTON, MA… Rod ends are an essential component of many machines, particularly those used in automotive, aviation, and other major industries. New Between Rounds Franchisee Brings Specialty Brews and Coffeehouse Vibe to Manchester, CT

MANCHESTER, SOUTH WINDSOR, TOLLAND AND VERNON, CT… Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, the unique bakery café and bagel shop with four locations in Connecticut, has a new store owner brewing up big plans for the Plaza at Buckland Hills Manchester location.

The Manchester café is now owned and operated by Ajay Mathew, a native of Hartford, CT who currently resides in South Windsor with his wife and two daughters. Mathew holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business from University of Connecticut in Storrs and an MBA from Post University in Waterbury. He had a 20-year career in the automobile insurance industry, most recently as a Unit Manager at Travelers Insurance in Hartford, CT. However, coffee has always been a passion of Mathew’s and it was time to follow his dream of opening a coffee shop. 

Mathew was interested in buying an established business and spent about two years researching various franchise opportunities looking for just the right fit. The family-owned Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café has been in business for more than three decades and is the brainchild of brothers Jerry and Joseph Puiia, who are Staten Island, NY natives. Holiday Assistance Program Provides 300 Grocery Gift Cards to Individuals in Need

BROCKTON, MA… Old Colony Elder Services (OCES) fulfilled the food insecurity needs of hundreds in the community this holiday season through their Holiday Assistance Program.  
 
OCES provided 300 grocery gift cards, valued at $100 each, to individuals in need throughout Brockton. This was supported by a generous grant from United Healthcare and funding from OCES’ Nutrition Department. 
 
OCES partnered with Vicente’s Supermarket to supply grocery gift cards to participating agencies that would then give them to individuals in need. The agencies participating in OCES’ Holiday Assistance Program include Brockton Neighborhood Health Center (BNHC); Signature Healthcare; The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office; and New Heights Charter School. 
 
“OCES strives to identify and fulfill the needs of the community. The greatest need this holiday season was food,” explained Samantha Sousa, MassHealth Programs Director at OCES. “We’d like to thank participating agencies and Vicente’s Supermarket, for helping to provide essential food assistance to local individuals in need.”

Hot Shots Now Open to Boys Ages 2-7. New Creativity Club winter program for young boys and girls begins January 21st. 

MARSHFIELD, MA… The idea of tots, pre-K, and kindergarten kids learning Irish Step dance, sculpting, drumming, painting and acro-dancing seems far-fetched. But at the Hot Shots Creativity Club this winter, that’s exactly what the 2-7 year-olds will be doing. 
 
The new program at the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield features instructors from five major South Shore arts organizations: the South Shore Art Center, the South Shore Conservatory, the Pembroke School of Performing Arts, the Dunleavy Boyle Academy of Irish Dance, and the Jesse Stiglich Music School. They are assisted by a team of middle and high school coaches. 
 
Program Now Open to Boys 
With the launch of the winter Hot Shots Creativity Club, director John Wilpers said it was finally time to invite boys to join the fun and learning. After almost 30 years and 5,000 girl graduates, Hot Shots is now open to boys ages 2-7. 
 
For years, parents of young boys have been asking for a Hot Shots program for boys. They heard about the program’s dedication to building tots’ and pre-K girls’ self-esteem, athletic skills, love of reading, parental bonds, and public speaking skills, and they wanted it for their sons. 
 
All the classes feature 100 percent parent participation, a weekly story time, five books to take home every Sunday, and public speaking (kids introducing themselves) — all aimed at learning, having fun, and building each child’s parental bonds, love of reading, and self-esteem. 
 
The Creativity Club will run for 10 Sundays, from January 21 through March 24, 2024 (including both weekends of the February vacation week) at the Boys & Girls Club at 37 Proprietors Drive in Marshfield. 
 
Each Sunday has a theme: 
 
Jan. 21: Polar bear sculpting 
Jan. 28: Acro-Dance 
Feb. 4: Ballet 
Feb. 11: Hip-Hop 
Feb. 18: Making music with shakers, scarves and snuggle dust 
Feb. 25: Painting kitty portraits with rhinestone collars 
Mar. 3: Drumming 
Mar. 10: Irish Step Dancing 
Mar. 17: A kiddy orchestra 
Mar. 24: Graduation 

There are three sessions each Sunday: 9, 10 and 11 AM. Each session is open to all ages. 

All children ages 2-7 from any town on the South Shore may enroll.
