Emerson Bearing Boston Offers Specialty Steel Bearings for Industrial Environments

May 6, 2019 //  by admin

Emerson Bearing Boston, a bearing company catering to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) markets around the world, offers specialty steels to provide unmatched bearing performance in a variety of applications.

Emerson Bearing works with countless specialty, or alloy, steels to craft bearings that can meet the demands of nearly any industrial environment.

Enhanced Properties, Superb Performance

Specialty steel bearings have additional alloyed materials that deliver special properties to the final product. Specialty steels are engineered to provide superior performance under specific conditions. For bearings such as roller bearings and ball bearings, specialty steels would be selected versus other bearing materials to deliver properties that can best withstand the operating conditions the bearings will be exposed to.

“Standard bearings are typically fabricated using chrome steel, which can be heat-treated and ground to deliver durability and high load capacity, which allows the bearings to perform well in many different applications,” explained Steve Katz, president. “However, depending on the operating conditions of the ball or roller bearing, other specialty stainless steels may offer better performance.”

The benefits of specialty steels include: High corrosion resistance; targeted resistance to high and/or low temperatures; easily fabricated; dimensional stability and strength; non-magnetic; sterile and hygienic; well-suited for special applications; lighter weight; and grease-free.

Well-Suited for Sensitive Applications

Specialty steel bearings are well-suited for sensitive applications such as those in the chemical industry, severe environments and food and beverage industry. Specialty steels, such as AISI 4440C stainless steel, are used in bearings for food processing because they can be easily cleaned and offer high corrosion resistance while maintaining durability at high and low temperatures. TC2 grease-free bearings may also be used if a lubricant-free product is more suitable for the application.

For bearings used in chemical processing, AISI 304 stainless steel is selected due to its ability to resist acids, such as chlorine gas, dry chlorine, ammonium sulfate, caustic soda, and others. This specialty steel can be used in acidic or alkaline environments.

Specialty steels are well suited for bearings used in severe environments due to the high corrosion resistance, superior stability, high strength, and resistance at high and low temperatures.

With a sourcing network that spans the globe, Emerson Bearing Boston caters to clients in these industries with a wide selection of specialty steel bearings.

Katz continued, “Where standard bearings may fail, specialty steels offer unmatched performance in a variety of applications thanks to their enhanced properties. Our experts can assist in the selection of the right bearing for its specific application and requirements to ensure superior performance and avoid costly pitfalls and downtime.”

For more information, Emerson Bearing’s eBook “Bearings for Use in Severe Environments” is available for download at

“What’s in your Grandma’s Jewelry Box?” Free Needham-based workshop outlines the value of bling.

May 3, 2019 //  by admin

What is that heirloom broach worth?  Or those earrings that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Aimee Berrent, Appraiser and Jewelry Consultant, will lead a free workshop exploring “What’s in your Grandma’s Jewelry Box” on Wednesday, May 22, 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at FirstLight Homecare, 109 – 123 Highland Avenue, Suite 301, Needham, MA  02494 (directly across from Panera Bread and between TD Bank and Petco).

Aimee M. Berrent, owner of A Matter of Brilliance, has been in the jewelry business for over 25 years.  A Graduate Gemologist, Ms. Berrent took courses in appraisals, diamonds, diamond grading, color stones, color stone grading, pearls, and restringing from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in California.  In order to make sure she offers the most accurate and up-to-date appraisals, Aimee is constantly learning about advanced diamond grading and colored stone grading in ongoing education courses.

Knowing what your valuables are worth is always a sensible thing to do, being it your jewelry, watches or sterling silver. This is why it’s important to keep your appraisals up to date, especially given the continuing rise in the gold and gemstone markets.

How much is mom’s diamond brooch worth? Can you share inherited jewelry equitably? Are you giving jewelry as a gift to a family member, or someone else?

This interactive presentation encourages participants to ask questions and provide their own anecdotes.

BTI announces laboratory relocation division

April 9, 2019 //  by admin

HANOVER, MA …
Brookline Transportation, Inc. (BTI), a Mayflower Van Lines agent specializing in commercial and residential moves, recently launched an expanded laboratory relocation division. The new division features enhanced packing, storing and transport services available for laboratory moves originating in the continental United States.

“In the Art of War, Sun Tsu said every battle is won before it is ever fought. In our business, a successful move starts long before the actual move and, truth be told, continues after everything is delivered,” said George Rohlfing, owner of the family-owned and operated Brookline Transportation, Inc. “This is even more true with lab medical and science relocations for any number of reasons—e.g. cost of equipment, sensitivity to heat/cold, specimens, etc. That’s why each lab move has a designated project manager to plan the before, during and after.”

BTI offers a number of services to address the specific intricacies of a moves for medical, industrial and educational labs. That includes customized containers to match the size and delicacy of a particular piece of equipment. That customization also takes into consideration the temperature requirements of the equipment being shipped.

“Many lab managers require a certain temperature be sustained during the move. This is true for a lot of the expensive equipment that must be transported as well as moves that include lab samples and specimens and live animals—the proverbial and literal lab rats,” said Rohlfing. “Through prior planning with our lab relocation specialists, we can determine all these types of details from the size and dimensions of the shipping containers, temperature of the moving trucks, air freight, trucking requirements and storage facilities should we need more than a few days to complete the move.”

Said Rohlfing, “Part of that moving plan includes the development of a contingency plan should something go awry—e.g. back up power source for the trucks should there be an issue to ensure desired temperatures.”

In addition to the planning and actual move, BTI lab relocation services include coordination with facilities and IT staff at both origin and destination to ensure a smooth transition for the lab to reopen ASAP at the new location. Additionally, BTI’s lab relocation division can offer storage options on both ends of a move should the facility need time to assimilate the new lab into the building.

For complete information on BTI’s lab relocation services, please visit https://www.usamover.com/specialized-moving/lab-science-moving/ or call 800-766-7724.

About Brookline Transportation, Inc. (BTI)

When it comes to the end of life, talking matters.

April 3, 2019 //  by admin

Arza Goldstein, who manages a private practice as an End of Life Doula, helping the dying and their families make the time that remains less stressful and more meaningful, will lead a workshop on Wednesday, May 1st at 6 p.m., at FirstLight Home Care of West Suburban Boston, 109 – 123 Highland Avenue, Suite 301, Needham, MA  02494 (directly across from Panera Bread and between TD Bank and Petco).

The program, named “The Conversation Project”, was developed by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and is centered on how sharing your wishes for end-of-life care can bring you closer to the people you love.

The Conversation Project Nation Survey (2018) underscores the following statistics –

92% of people say that talking with their loved ones about end-of-life care is important.

32% have actually done so.

21% of people say they haven’t had the conversation because they don’t want to upset their loved ones.

53% say they’d be relieved if a loved one started the conversation.

Arza Goldstein is an entrepreneur, journey woman and advocate. Her career path has taken her from Birth Doula to Hospice nurse, community organizer and co-founder of Living Wisely, Dying Well, an organization designed to encourage conversations about death and dying.

Today, after 11 years as a hospice nurse, sitting at the bedside of hundreds of dying patients, Arza has a private practice as an End of Life Doula, helping the dying and their families make the time that remains less stressful and more meaningful. Most of us don’t like to talk about dying but come for this conversation and see how thinking about death and dying makes us live our lives with greater intention.

This interactive presentation encourages participants to ask questions and provide their own anecdotes.
