Preventing electrical bearing damage – Emerson Bearing Boston offers a solution.

February 27, 2020 //  by admin

When a bearing is exposed to an electric current, it can cause electrical bearing damage, which manifests as pits and grooves on the bearings’ surface. This creates an uneven surface texture causing additional noise, vibration, and (eventually) complete failure. It is a costly problem, often leading to unnecessary downtime and expensive repairs or upgrades.

Railroads are one application in particular where electrical current causing pitting is a major cause of bearing failure. Other applications where extra bearing protection is necessary include motors with variable frequency drives (VFDs), pump motors, HVAC units, refrigeration, compressors, generators and data centers.

Emerson Bearing Boston, a bearing company catering to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) markets around the world, offers a solution for preventing electrical bearing damage – replacing standard bearings with ceramic hybrid ball bearings.

Although not all bearings are damaged by an electrical current and not all circuits cause bearing damage, the problem typically occurs when equipment is grounded incorrectly or when bearings are used in AC/DC motors with VFDs.

Ceramic Hybrid Bearing Benefits

Ceramic hybrid bearings consist of ceramic rolling balls and an inner and outer steel race. Ceramic bearings provide a level of insulation that eliminates electric arcing and fluting. They also feature double shielding and non-conductive properties and low temperature rise under extreme operating conditions. For example, Nachi ceramic hybrid ball bearings are one of the most durable replacements for traditional steel bearings. They are dimensionally interchangeable with most bearings, which eliminates the need for special modifications during the installation process, facilitates the replacement process, and makes them a more cost-effective replacement option.

“Apart from their tremendous insulating properties, there are many other advantages to switching to ceramic hybrid ball bearings – such as safer operation in extreme conditions, a wider range of speed capabilities and longer bearing life span,” explained Steve Katz, president of Emerson Bearing Boston.

He continued, “Bearings can be damaged by electrical current, as well as many other environmental and operational factors. Understanding these factors and the risks they possess is the best way to prevent costly repairs, downtime, or operator injuries associated with damaged or failed components.”

For more information about Emerson Bearing’s ceramic hybrid bearings and other products, visit EmersonBearing.com.

Website Accessibility Workshop Offered at Metro South Chamber of Commerce on March 12th

February 27, 2020 //  by admin

Does your website meet ADA requirements for people with disabilities? Have you heard about web accessibility, but are unsure if your business is at risk?

Adaptable, a digital accessibility service based in Middleboro, MA, will present a one-hour workshop entitled “Website Accessibility and the Americans with Disabilities Act: What’s My Responsibility?” to small businesses, non-profits and other organizations on Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Metro South Chamber of Commerce, 60 School Street, Brockton MA 02301.

Adaptable helps businesses and organizations of all types and sizes ensure accessibility for their websites, apps, and other digital resources.

The workshop will be led by Adaptable’s accessibility experts Chris Herlihy and Mike McKenna who will cover topics including: How the Americans with Disabilities Act applies to websites and other digital media; how to assess your own website; and what to do next. Attendees will leave with an understanding of digital accessibility and the tools needed to audit their own website.

Adaptable will also be on-hand after the seminar to provide attendees with a free, 60-second on-site accessibility review.

To learn more and register for the event, visit Metro South Chamber’s website event page – https://www.metrosouthchamber.com/calendar-registration/

Helping Businesses Meet Accessibility Standards

Many people with disabilities rely on adaptive tools to use technology. For example, a visually impaired user can utilize a screen reader to help browse a website. If a website is not programmed to meet today’s accessibility standards, adaptive tools will not work correctly, and the user will be left at a disadvantage.

Adaptable is stepping up to implement best practices for ADA online compliance and helping companies get ahead of the curve and avoid costly liability. Services provided include:

– Analysis of current digital accessibility status

– Formulation of a remediation plan

– Execution of the required changes

– Ongoing monitoring going forward to ensure that the business remains in compliance.
