J.P. Licks Celebrates Oktoberfest with Great Brews…Dessert Style

October 7, 2008 //  by admin

DATELINE: BOSTON; BROOKLINE; CAMBRIDGE; JAMAICA PLAIN; NEWTON CENTRE; SOMERVILLE AND WEST ROXBURY, MA…

The cooler weather and colorful leaves can only mean one thing…Oktoberfest! Belly up to a J.P. Licks counter for a taste of some great lager…dessert style.

J.P. Licks celebrates Oktoberfest with three new beer flavors made with Sam Adams beer! Not only is Sam Adams made in Boston, it’s Kosher, which is a key requirement for any ingredient used by the beloved homemade ice cream shop.

Stop by any of J.P. Licks’ eight shops throughout the month of October and try:

Black Lager ice cream, which has a great light flavor, and the taste of malt. J.P. Licks uses a hint of chocolate base to bring out the full flavor of the Sam Adams Black Lager beer.

Irish Red ice cream which is made with Sam Adams Irish Red and is a creamy, delicious brew with just a hint of butter and toffee flavor.

Cherry Wheat Sorbet flavor which is a light and refreshing sorbet made with Sam Adams cherry wheat beer.

Pints, quarts and tubs of Oktoberfest beer flavors are available.

Other “non-beer” featured flavors available during the month of October include: Noodle Kugel and Manishewitz sorbet (until Oct. 13th); Carrot Cake (beginning Oct. 13th); Pumpkin Custard; Butter Cashew; Chocolate M&M; Peanut Butter Ripple; Fresh Lemon Sorbet; Mango Sherbet; Oatmeal Cookie Lactose Free and Coffee Oreo Lowfat Yogurt. Top any ice cream off with colorful harvest sprinkles.

Coffee concoctions and specialty drinks this month include: Maple Spice Latte; Sour Apple Moolatta and Apple Cider.

The Whole Pumpkin

Baked goodies available through October include: Pumpkin loaves with real cream cheese frosting; pumpkin chocolate chip cookies; pumpkin muffins with real cream cheese frosting and pumpkin pecan scones.

Visit jplicks.com for all locations.

Best of Boston and Beyond

For more than 25 years, J.P. Licks has been serving homemade ice cream and other specialties in their eight Kosher-certified shops in and around Boston. Locally owned and operated, J.P. Licks has won many awards over the years for their intensely-flavored homemade ice cream and frozen yogurt. Most recently, J.P. Licks was named “Best of Boston” and “Best Location – Jamaica Plain” by Boston Magazine and also made WBZ’s “A-List” for the second year in a row. Known for their high quality, scrumptious treats and their knack for “treating people right”, J.P. Licks was named Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s “Small Business of the Year”.

In addition to their frozen creations, J.P. Licks roasts their own fair trade and organic coffee beans on-site at their Jamaica Plain store, which ensures the best and the freshest, full-bodied cup of coffee around. Decadent hand-packed ice cream cakes as well as breakfast & ice cream sundae catering are also available.

Refuse to Participate in the Recession

September 10, 2008 //  by admin

You can either let the economy define your business or you can create your own path!

Consider FREE news coverage as one of your first opportunities.  But what is news?  How do you package it?  Who do you send it to?

Let’s start with what are the hot buttons for real news that will generate real coverage. What is a feature story in the Local Daily Tribune worth? The Nearby Big City Business Journal?  The Weekly Chronicle?  Thousands or more.

This “editor approved” information is said to have 10 times the impact of traditional, paid advertising.  Public relations helps “position” your company as the “top of the mind” choice and “innovator” in your field.  This brand name recognition and expert position will pave the way for new and expanded business.

In effect, the media blows your horn for you and, if well orchestrated, you can name the tune.

  • Milestones
    Example – 1,000th giddy customers, 2,000 handshakes

  • Anniversary
Example – # of years in business

  • Gold Standard Student
Example – Work with the local high school to recognize exceptional students and give them recognition.

  • Community involvement
Example – Take a bow when donating either money or services.

  • New key staff or additional training or promotion
Example – Announce a new manager, seminar attendance, new title.

  • New technologies
Example – Announce new software breakthrough, etc.

  • Trends
Example – How is this impacting modern day life.

  • Human interest
Example – Unusual stories of hope, inspiration, humor.

  • Useful tips
Example – How can someone better use your service/product.

  • Special day or event
Example – Create your own celebration day.

Your local daily newspaper may print the article this week. Your community weekly may run it next week.  The regional business journal may not have space for it until next month.  Yet, the cumulative effect is “time released” visibility.

News releases are often the catalyst for bigger, feature stories.
