Registration Now Open for Hot Shots Soccer for Girls.  A youth soccer program using tutus, 100% parent participation, and story times enters 28th season.

September 5, 2023 //  by admin

SQUIRT-GUN SOCCER: One of the many fun games at Hot Shots Soccer for Girls is the squirt gun dribbling drill. Girls dribble, chased by their squirt-gun-toting parents, and then the tables are turned! Here, Marshfield’s Jared Bell has managed to lose the ball while getting soaked by his daughter, Cadence. (John Wilpers photo)

MARSHFIELD, MA… Since 1996, Hot Shots Soccer for girls has stood out from youth sports program anywhere with 100 percent parent participation, story times, books to take home every week, public speaking for tots, and soccer “drills” that use tutus, puppets, parachutes, and squirt guns.

One of the most unusual aspects of Hot Shots is that parents aren’t just taxi drivers who observe from the sidelines, but participate in every activity, putting on tutus, becoming horsies, being butterflies, etc. These fun games build lasting memories and bonds.

The aim of the program is to build girls’ self-esteem, parental bonds, love of reading, athletic skills, and public speaking abilities while having lots of silly fun.

Open to South Shore girls ages 2-7, Hot Shots is conducted in a supportive, non-competitive, fun-filled environment. Since 1996, more than 5,000 girls have graduated.

There is no competition. The only “competition” is within each girl. The coaches challenge each girl weekly to push herself to try something new.

Hot Shots also strives to build a sense of self-esteem and being special. Every session, we ask girls to speak to the 30-40 kids and grown-ups, introducing themselves by telling everyone their favorite things and why they are a special person.

Hot Shots builds girls’ love of reading with a story time every week, and sends every girl home with a bag full of five books to read.

To create a supportive culture, we use strong female role models as coaches, including high school and middle school girls, many of whom are top-level soccer players but many of whom are also dancers, artists, etc. The common denominator is that they all love helping young girls.

Surveys prove the value of the Hot Shots experience. Of the parents surveyed, 98 percent said their girls became more self-confident; 98 percent became more at ease in social settings; 94 percent became more willing to try new things; 92 percent became more independent; and 92 percent became more fond of books and reading.

To join the fun, register at bgcmarshfield.org. The season is 10 Sundays, September 10 – November 12, 2023 at the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield at 37 Proprietors Drive, Marshfield, MA. Sessions are at 9, 10, and 11 a.m. Registration is open to girls ages 2-7. The fee is $195 (scholarships available). For questions, text/call John Wilpers, 617-688-0137, or email john@bgcmarshfield.org.

Crickets? – You are better than that! – Please respond in any way – Panera friends – Tell to me to go hell. Or head for Panera. – On the road with Panera and PR

September 5, 2023 //  by admin

The above headline of this post was also the subject line of my last email note to all marketing executives at Panera Bread. This is my 5th email to them. I also left several voice mail messages. Can “corporate America” still respond to consumers? Or not?

Below is the most recent self-explanatory email message…

Panera Friends –

I’m following up again. Tell me to go to hell. Or delight me with some words of encouragement.

I’m a Panera card holder and a long-time Public Relations pro.  I’m also about the drive across this great nation of ours (September 15 – October 15). I’d like to include Panera in that plan.

Here is the short version of the story (rare for a PR guy).

My wife and I are traveling from America’s Hometown (right, Plymouth, MA) to a family wedding in Seattle, WA this September. We are taking an entire month to take in the sites and cover a lot of ground.

I’d like to blog about it along the way. And use various Panera Bread locations along the way for connectivity and sustenance.

I’d like to talk with someone in your PR/Communications department about how to maximize this experience for both of us. This is a great way to underscore that Panera is THE oasis for busy professionals and travelers who want to check in and refuel in every way.

Here is my bio –

STEVEN V. DUBIN, president of PR WORKS and founder of MY PINNACLE NETWORK, knows the “marketing” business.  His newspaper career started by covering the Boston Celtics for the New Bedford Standard Times, Steve and Larry Bird shared rookie years.  From there Steve progressed to editing and marketing positions in several publishing companies, including Mariner Newspapers.

He is the author of the E-Book “PR 101” – download for free at www.PRWorkZone.com.  Steve has is a contributing author to “Get Slightly Famous”, a book about becoming a celebrity in your field and attracting more business with less effort and “Tricks of the Trade”, the complete guide to succeeding in the advice business.

He understands that good marketing has to be a win-win.  Content must be useful and interesting to an editor’s primary audience.  Free exposure is only available to those who recognize news angles, package news in a digestible form, and take care of all the details of story placement – from arranging interviews to providing appropriate visuals.

Steve is the past president of the New England Franchise Association, founding president of the South Shore Ad Club and founder member of My Pinnacle Network, a business-to-business lead generation group with eight groups throughout Massachusetts.

He has presented seminars on various marketing topics for the SCORE, Association of Franchisees and Dealers; Small Business Development Center, University of Massachusetts/Dartmouth; numerous Chambers of Commerce; New England Healthcare Assembly; and South Shore Women’s Business Network.

He resides in America’s hometown Plymouth, MA with his wife Wendy.

Please give me a call to discuss possible next steps.

Bearings that are “perfectly suited” to their application. Emerson Bearing Announces Customized Bearings & Components

August 31, 2023 //  by admin

BOSTON, MA… Emerson Bearing, a Boston, MA-based bearing company catering to niche markets nationwide and the sister company of Action Bearing which serves the New England market, supports the unique needs of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) markets across the nation with customized bearings and components.

“Every application has unique needs and specifications, and it’s important to use the right bearings for the job,” explained Steve Katz, president. “Not every application will require a customized approach, but for those that do, customization is an investment that will ultimately save time and money in the long run.”

Even though there are a number of standard bearings available, they’re not always quite right for a particular application. A customized bearing or component is needed. Customization provides a number of options – whether it’s adding features or creating a bearing that’s easier to install, can manage a greater load, or has a longer service life in a given environment. OEM and MRO clients work with the engineer on a design that’s perfectly suited to their application.

Some of the most common customized features include: adding a snap ring groove; using a solid lube lubricant; adding high-temperature grease; using ceramic non-conductive rolling elements; adding ceramic coatings or V-grooves on the O.D., changing internal clearance and more.

Cost-Savings
Though customization costs more upfront, it can lead to cost savings over time because the bearing is perfectly suited to its application. Using an “almost-but-not-quite-right” standard bearing may mean replacing it more often or facing bigger maintenance challenges with equipment.

To learn more about Emerson Bearing’s standard and custom bearing solutions or to speak with one of Emerson’s bearing experts, visit EmersonBearing.com or contact 800-225-4587.

Inventory Matters
With over four million bearings in stock at multiple price points, Emerson Bearing has the largest inventory of bearings on the East Coast under one roof in their 30,000 square foot warehouse.

Over the years, Emerson Bearing has sourced bearings for companies in a variety of industries including machine tool, material handling, power generation, food processing, robotics, recreation, wastewater treatment, and other industries. Emerson Bearing’s large inventories result in faster turnaround times, and their long-lasting relationships with industry partners means they can source bearings quickly. Bearing options include Angular Bearings, Ball Bearings, Ceramic Bearings, Roller Bearings. Super Precision Bearings. Mounting Bearings Rod Ends and Spherical Bushings, Slewing Ring Bearings, and Spindle Bearings.

About Emerson Bearing
For more than six decades, Emerson Bearing offer customers a one-stop shopping experience. With an online product catalog with over 3 million bearings – ranging in size from 3mm to tunnel-boring 15-foot-diameter giants; a vast inventory of bearings; worldwide sourcing; a fixed price program; a knowledgeable staff; same day shipping and 24/7 service, Emerson Bearing Boston has become a leading provider of bearings in the U.S., and its sister company Action Bearing, which serves the New England market, maintains headquarters at 201 Brighton Ave. Boston, MA. For more information, visit EmersonBearing.comand ActionBearing.com in the New England market or call 800-225-4587.

Scituate resident and former Firefighter recognized for Random Act of Kindness and Sunny Disposition.

August 29, 2023 //  by admin

DATELINE: PLYMOUTH, MA…

Brian Poitras, a Scituate resident and a recent retiree of the Lowell Fire Department, once again did not hesitate when help was needed.

While visiting the Scituate Senior Center, Brian was chatting with acquaintance Anne Tucker Roberts.

Anne mentioned that she was concerned that during a hot and humid spell in July her air conditioner was not functioning.  Service companies were not responding to her telephone calls or were scheduling her out for several weeks. Anne and her 85-year-old husband, John, were not only uncomfortable, but at risk.

Out of the kindness of his heart, Brian ventured into his own basement, brought up a spare portable unit and installed it in the Roberts’ home.

“It is a story of what this country has lost. He has renewed my faith that people really DO care about others!” noted Anne.

Thus, Brian Poitras is the first to be recognized by the Sunny Disposition campaign sponsored by Plymouth Solar Energy.  In addition to recognition, Brian will receive a $50 gift certificate to Strega Café, one of Plymouth’s finer restaurants.

Know someone who has recently performed a random or intended act of kindness?

Could be something as simple as taking out the trash for an elderly neighbor.  Or helping with heavy lifting of a new couch.  Or sharing an extra plate of homemade brownies.

Plymouth Solar Energy is recognizing Sunny Disposition winners monthly.  The winner will receive dinner for two at one of Greater Plymouth’s leading restaurants and a spiffy pair of sunglasses.
