TGA Premier Youth Tennis announces Fall Programming

August 8, 2016 //  by admin

TGA web photo 2

TGA Premier Youth Tennis (TGA acronym stands for Teach, Grow, Achieve), the leading school and community based youth tennis introduction model, and a national partner with the United States Tennis Association (USTA), has come to the South Shore and is helping children develop the enthusiasm and skills to enjoy tennis for life.

As a way to introduce kids from all backgrounds to the fun, positive, character-building aspects of tennis – TGA of Plymouth County offers a fun and engaging six-week after school enrichment program for students in Kindergarten to Grade 8.

Peter Dunlap, a 21 year Hingham resident, and former Plymouth State University varsity tennis player owns and operates TGA of Plymouth County. Dunlap is a USPTA, PTR and TGA Certified Coach.

“Tennis has led me to lifelong friendships, a healthy lifestyle and a positive perspective on life,” noted Dunlap. He added, “The game doesn’t have to be complicated or foreboding, we try to introduce K-8 kids to a game that is fun and gives them a pathway to whatever level they’d like to bring it to. Studies have shown that many children lead sedentary lives. Oftentimes, they have yet to find a passion that moves them.”

TGA_Premier_Youth_Tennis_Logo copyTGA of Plymouth County recently announced a new Fall After School Enrichment Program and is registering elementary and middle schools now. All TGA of Plymouth County coaches are certified by TGA, trained by Dunlap and undergo CORI background check.

TGA of Plymouth County has led programs at the Hull Recreation Department and South Shore Sports Center of Hingham.

TGA provides all racquets, balls, training aids and portable nets for all ages, creating a safe and constructive tennis environment. The school only needs to supply the space. For example, half of a basketball court accommodates up to 15 students.

Dunlap and his team have an enthusiasm for tennis and enjoy working with children. The TGA curriculum makes tennis fun and relevant, often connecting it to classroom topics such as math, science and history and current events such as the U.S. Open. Individual and corporate scholarships (to cover all the children in a school’s program) are available.

TGA is one of the leading initiatives to grow the sport of tennis and is the only after-school youth tennis program in the country, which is making a significant impact on youth tennis and the future growth of the sport.

TGA, USTA and education experts developed a five level enrichment and instruction based curriculum for ages 5-10, and a play-based curriculum for students age 11-14. The program meets once a week and costs $99 per student. No special equipment or uniforms are needed. The only requirement is that children wear sneakers.

Whether this is the child’s first exposure to tennis or they are looking to take it to the next level, TGA programs helps children enjoy and grow with tennis. In partnership with the United States Tennis Association (USTA), TGA has developed a Youth Tennis Player Pathway to help guide families through the journey of learning and playing.

According to the Tennis Industry Association’s (TIA) State of the Industry report, there has been “a 4 percent increase in overall tennis participation, to 28 million players, and the highest participation level since 2009.”

Dunlap noted, “Tennis is an activity that provides physical exercise and mind/body coordination, while also teaching teamwork, goal setting, sportsmanship, and how to follow rules,” explained Dunlap. “TGA programs often incorporate academic lessons with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).”

School superintendents, principals, athletic directors, recreation directors and other school personnel interested in signing up for TGA’s Fall Program should contact Coach Peter Dunlap at 781-281-8565 or visit www.PlayTGA.com/PlymouthCounty.

About TGA

TGA is a national supporting organization of the Afterschool Alliance and Lights on Afterschool and is a corporate advocate and national partner of the President’s Challenge on Physical Fitness, as well as the National Council of Youth Sports.

August 8, 2016 //  by admin

Rodman-Logo-DigitalRodman CPAs, a full service tax and accounting firm serving small, mid–market, and multi-generational sized companies throughout the greater Boston area, has recently rebranded and launched a new generation of their website, www.rodmancpa.com.

Rodman CPAs, formerly known as Rodman & Rodman P.C., rebranded to better reflect the firm’s growth, expertise, and comprehensive accounting and tax solutions for clients in a range of industries, including alternative energy. Apollo Safety Establishes Dedicated Food Processing & Manufacturing Division

August 5, 2016 //  by admin

Apollo logoApollo Safety, Inc., providers of gas detection products and services for universities, hospitals, government operations and other organizations, recently announced the formation of a special division to serve food processing and manufacturing facilities throughout New England.

With dozens of food processing and manufacturing companies in Massachusetts alone, and a growing number of clients from around New England, Apollo Safety has created a dedicated division to provide gas detection equipment, maintenance and monitoring services to their growing niche market. Apollo Safety’s new division caters to companies that manufacture, process, package and distribute seafood, meat, dairy and other food products.

“Gas detection systems are necessary and alarm at the first sign of trouble, from toxic gases such as carbon monoxide to ammonia, which is used in the refrigeration process and may leak into the air from cold storage areas,” explained John V. Carvalho III, president of Apollo Safety.

Apollo Systems goes beyond simply installing the systems by providing regular maintenance and monitoring (testing) of the systems to ensure they are continually in optimal working order.

“The reality is that it doesn’t take much of a leak to have an impact,” said Carvalho. “Food processing and manufacturing companies must be proactive and have the proper gas detection controls in place to avoid thousands of dollars in fines from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or worse, a catastrophic leak that could be fatal.”

Apollo Safety’s offerings include a wide variety of portable and stationary gas detection systems suitable for large manufacturers, including brands such as Industrial Scientific, RAE Systems, RKI, and GMI. These systems are available for purchase or rental at weekly or monthly rates. Rental equipment is certified to NIST standards and is guaranteed for the entire rental period.

Apollo Safety provides food processing and manufacturing facilities with on-site installation, staff training and 24/7 service.

For more information about Apollo Safety or to schedule a consultation, call 800-813-5408 or visit www.apollosafetyproducts.net.

Marathon star Bill Rodgers to hold book signing at 6th annual Run for Faith, Sun., August 14, 8:30am at Plimoth Plantation

August 3, 2016 //  by admin

Bill Rodgers in the 1975 Boston Marathon
Bill Rodgers in the 1975 Boston Marathon

PLYMOUTH, MA…

On August 14 at 8:30am, Boston Marathon legend Bill Rodgers will focus on an extremely significant road race. And while August 14 is the day the women’s marathon at the Olympic Games in Rio, the former Olympian will be locked in on another, much shorter race that day:  the sixth annual 4.58 mile Run for Faith at Plimoth Plantation where he will be signing copies of his book, Marathon Man.

“As a cancer survivor, the Run for Faith has a special place in my heart,” said Rodgers, who overcame a bout with prostate cancer. “While I certainly wish all the participants well in Rio, my attention will be on the Run for Faith and helping Matt and his team of volunteers raise money for ovarian cancer research.”

“Matt” is Run for Faith Race Director Matthew Romboldi. The Run for Faith is dedicated to the memory of Romboldi’s mother, Marcy “Faith” Romboldi, who succumbed to ovarian cancer in 2010.

“I was a little too young to see Bill compete in the Montreal Olympics but he is a living legend when it comes to marathon running in this country,” said Romboldi. “We were delighted to have him last year as our grand marshal and pleased he’ll be back in that capacity this year, as well as signing copies of his book, Marathon Man.”

Marathon Man: My 26.2 Mile Journey from Grad Student to Top of the World will be on sale at the Run for Faith for $28 (payment is by cash or check only). The book highlights Rodger’s rise from obscurity to become the United States’ elite marathon runner, winning the Boston Marathon and New York Marathon four times each and competing in the 1976 Olympics.   Rodgers will also be signing copies of his poster showing him winning the 1979 Boston Marathon. Posters are $20.

Today, in addition to his book and making appearances, Rodgers owns and operates an online store, the Bill Rodgers Running Center (www.BillRodgerRunningCenter.com) with his brother Charlie.

“One of the things I love about running is even though it’s a solitary activity, it can bring people, communities and even countries together,” said Rodgers. “I’m honored to be a part of the Run for Faith community.”

To date, the Run for Faith has raised more than $100,000 for local and regional causes. That includes two annual scholarships for graduating Plymouth North and South high school seniors, an annual donation to the Dana Farber’s Yawkey Center for Cancer Care, and contributions to other local cause that were near and dear to Mrs. Romboldi, such as the Plymouth Public Library.

In its short history, the Run for Faith has become known as the Plymouth run offering something for everyone. The scenic 4.58 mile rural course offers a challenge to both experienced and novice runners alike. First place finishers for men’s and women’s will receive $150, $100 for second and $50 for third. There will also be trophies for age group winners and medals will also be given out.

All women runners to receive tank top and men to receive TechWick T-shirt.  Chip timing will once again be embedded into runner’s number. This technology enables photos to runners to be taken. Water stations are plentiful. Walkers and runners with strollers are welcome.

To amuse younger family members, a jumpy house will be available. A number of vendors will be on hand to sell their wares before and after the race.

The entry fee for the Run for Faith is $25 for individuals before day of the race; $30 for registration on the day of the race. One hundred percent of Run for Faith entry fees go to the aforementioned charities.

Runners can register at www.runforfaithplymouth.org. You can view the course online at http://www.mapmyrun.com/us/plymouth-ma/run-for-faith-plymouth-ma-route-115100461.

Interested sponsors can contact Matthew Romboldi at info@runforfaithplymouth.org.

Georgia CALLS Rebrands and Announces Expanded Mandate and Services

July 29, 2016 //  by admin

Ga Calls Logo - Vertical-TagThe face of homelessness has changed. Families make up nearly 40 percent of all who are homeless. In Gwinnett County, the average age of a homeless child is just six years old. Georgia CALLS, a 501c3 organization that started as a life transformation ministry by serving the formerly incarcerated, has expanded into a family transformation ministry. The nonprofit has rebranded and announced an expanded mandate and services.

Now, in addition to their unique reentry program that serves the state of Georgia in its commitment to helping formerly incarcerated and state supervised individuals develop critical job and life skills while providing much-needed work opportunities, Georgia CALLS helps families in distress recover from homelessness and lack of employment.

With a new mission to help rebuild and reestablish families, Georgia CALLS helps families in the North Gwinnett/South Hall County area in a number of ways – from teaching job skills and helping to provide steady employment, to leading them through a unique personal development program; providing personalized case management and counseling, and helping to acquire stable housing. Georgia CALLS program consists of these key parts: Call Center Employment, Stable Housing, Social Services, Job/Life Skills, Reentry Program and Spiritual Growth (which is optional).

Stark Statistics

In 2014, Georgia had the fifth highest unemployment rating and sixth highest poverty rating in the U.S. and ranked as the eighth highest in food stamp use percentage.

According to State Corrections of Georgia, 60 percent of inmates in Georgia are parents, and a number of these parents have been incarcerated more than once. The Gwinnett Coalition estimates there are 6,000 homeless kids in Gwinnett County, and as of March 2016, the Gwinnett County School system was accommodating almost 2,000 known homeless students.

“As it turns out, homeless families are not as uncommon as one might think in our community,” explained Mark Mobley, Georgia CALLS’ Executive Director. “This is why Georgia CALLS exists. We’ve helped reunite 40 children with their parents just over the past year.”

To learn more about Georgia CALLS’ new mission and how they are working to build hope for generations to come, visit http://www.gacalls.org/about-us.

The Campus Dream Project

Georgia CALLS is currently fundraising for their Campus Dream Project, which is a new space to accommodate their expanding program, additional staff, and the costs to build-out that custom-designed, work/training facility. The Campus Dream Project is a comprehensive solution-focused model that will meet the needs of both individuals and families searching for hope and a second chance in society. Campus Dream is Georgia CALLS on a grand scale, with numerous work opportunities, job/life skills training, transitional housing, a food bank, tutoring, after school programs, and childcare.

Mobley continued, “Georgia CALLS is five years into building a brand new approach that helps solve the problem instead of just meeting short-term needs. Our goal is not just to meet needs but to change lives and restore families.”
