Thinking Inside the Box. Redefining what self storage means for Somerville.

May 7, 2013 //  by admin

SOMERVILLE, MA…

A high tech looking sparkling glass building is rising six stories along Route 93 at Assembly Square in Somerville, MA.  What is it?  An office building? Apartment complex?  No, it is a new state-of-the-art self storage facility with a restaurant, bike storage area, and community room located on the public plaza at the gateway to Assembly Square.

Opening in early June, the 50 Middlesex Avenue location is clearly visible from Interstate 93 and is an impressive addition to the Somerville skyline. The six story gleaming structure features state-of-the-art security, a secure drive-in area great for personal and business use, oversized elevators, and climate controlled storage units. The building will also be silver LEED equivalent. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a voluntary, consensus-based, market-driven program that provides third-party verification of green buildings. On the first floor will be Style Café, featuring coffee drinks and fresh gourmet sandwiches & catering. Visit GetInsideStorage.com for more information on the Somerville facility.

The new facility, managed by Extra Space Storage facility offers complimentary water, coffee, and use of a moving van for new customers. Additional community friendly features include a secure public bicycle room and community conference room that can be used FREE of charge.

“Somerville is centrally located to serve anyone in transition and searching for safe, secure, Class A storage,” noted Gerald Cohen, Manager of SSG Development, LLC. Cohen added, “People and businesses in transition – down-sizing, relocating students, remodeling, new home purchases, seasonal inventory, excess inventory – are creating great demand for state-of-the-art storage. We are excited to meet that need and to exceed customers expectations with a facility that makes the process financially feasible and stress-free.”

SSG Development made it a top priority to engage the local community groups, planning department and the mayor’s office to ensure they were developing a facility that fit into the community’s vision. “We welcomed and listened to the feedback of the local community. They know Somerville best and helped us develop a better facility, one that will strengthen Somerville as a whole, and support future growth at Assembly Square” said Dave Fulton, Chief Operating Officer at SSG Development.

SSG Development, LLC is a real estate investment and property development company located in Brookline, Massachusetts. This is SSG’s 9th self storage location. They develop, build and own the Class A state-of-the-art, multi-story, climate-controlled, self-storage facilities with sites in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Florida. The other Class A SSG facilities closest to the new Somerville location are located in:

  • Everett –  140 Broadway
