Matchmaking guru: Vacation fling may not lead to ring, but can still be a good thing.

August 19, 2009 //  by admin

NORWELL, MA…

Stella may have gotten her groove back via a “fling” with a man 20 years her junior in the movie How Stella Got Her Groove Back. Yet according to matchmaking expert Paul A. Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating, a vacation fling can be just the ticket to reboot your love life—even if you don’t end up walking down the aisle like in the movie.

As the CEO of one of the world’s largest brick-and-mortar dating services, Falzone has paired thousands of clients during more than 35 years in business. While he does not advise clients to have an affair on a trip as a way to find that special someone, he does see a parallel with the vacation fling and finding Mr. or Ms. Right.

“The whole premise of ‘Stella’ was that here was a woman in her late 30s, who was so busy with her career and raising her son she forgot about taking care of herself as a person. We work with many people in a similar scenario,” said Falzone. “Whether you hook up with anybody or not, a fun vacation can be a great way to learn more about yourself, meet new people and just let your hair down and enjoy your life, which is an important step towards finding and attracting that special someone.”

So, if a fling is not the goal of a vacation, how do you get your groove back? Falzone recommends:

·         Visit a place you’ve never been before – A change of scenery is one thing, but if it’s a place you’ve always wanted to see, it’s so much better.

·         Take a tour/trip with other singles – Forget the ugly stereotypes of sleazy “singles” tours/cruises. There are many people who just want to get out, see new things, meet new people… and also happen to be single.

·         Incorporate physical activity in your trip – Hiking, biking, swimming, dancing, wherever you go on your vacation, make sure there’s some sort of physical activity involved. Sitting on a beach and drinking pina coladas might sound nice, but it’s not really the way to invigorate your body and mind. Again, this is where activity-oriented group trips can be a great way to meet people.

·         Investigate new cultures – If you can swing it financially, take a trip to a foreign country. Learning about a different culture can be another great way to recharge your batteries.

Adds Falzone, “This may sound kind of strange, but the vacation fling you should really be after is one with yourself. Vacations can be a time for rest and relaxation, but they can also of self-discovery—or rediscovery. That’s really how Stella got her groove back and got her man.”

Tips from Dating Expert on How to Navigate Introducing Your Friends to Your Date

May 14, 2009 //  by admin

Is there a right time to introduce your date to your friends?

Master matchmaker, Paul A. Falzone, CEO of the world’s largest bricks and mortar dating service The Right One and Together Dating explains, “Absolutely. A first date is not a good time to introduce him/her to your friends because you hardly know your date. When you introduce someone you are dating to your friends, what you’re really saying is I like this person and I want you to like him/her too. At least wait until you’ve had several dates and you know the feeling is mutual.”

Falzone reminds singles that although it is not set in stone when you should introduce your date to your friends, it can be helpful to have your friends meet your date relatively early on. Why? Because your trusted, good friends are impartial and will have the ability to pick up on something about your date that may, or may not, be positive which you may have overlooked. It’s also helpful to see how your date responds to your friends.

“For example, you may be so enamored with your date that you may not notice how rudely he is treating the hostess and wait staff at the restaurant, but your friends would surely pick up on it. As your friends would point out to you, it’s only a matter of time before he begins to treat you in the same manner,” explained Falzone.

Navigating the date to friend introduction? Falzone advises singles that there are several things to consider:

· Wait until you’ve had at least two dates before introducing him/her to your friends. That will give you both a chance to get to know each other a little better.

· Keep the meeting casual. Meet for coffee or drinks; dine out somewhere informal; hit the local hotspots; head out to a concert; host a barbecue; go bowling or play pool – whatever you decide to do, keep it casual and try to do something that everyone will enjoy.

· Make the extra effort to put everyone at ease. Avoid intense or confrontational conversation. If the conversation turns less than amiable or your friends really begin to delve into your date’s personal life and past relationships, steer the conversation back to neutral territory and if necessary, politely part ways.

Falzone continued, “When you like someone, it’s only natural to want your friends to get to know that special person. Yes, your friends may ‘interrogate’ your date a little bit, but bear in mind that they are only looking out for your best interest. Wait until you’ve dated a couple times before you introduce them and do so in a fun, casual way.”

Master Matchmaker Recommends the Best Way to Find Love

April 22, 2009 //  by admin

For singles who are looking for love, there are hundreds of online dating sites as well as traditional (brick and mortar) matchmaking services out there to help them find a date or potential mate. But, which is better?

According to Paul A. Falzone, CEO of the world’s largest bricks and mortar dating service The Right One and Together Dating as well as online dating service LoveAccess.com, “What’s the best way to find love? It’s not about which is the better way – traditional dating services or online dating. It’s really all about customer preference. There are still many people who are uncomfortable going to a dating site to seek a match. They prefer to have that face-to-face contact with a professional matchmaker.”

So, what do you get from an online dating site? You get the freedom to browse and connect with other (hopefully) single people. Typically, you’ll register and complete a questionnaire (which may be brief or comprehensive) and can start seeking potential dates immediately. Some online dating sites offer their members additional services such as instant messaging, web cam chat, dating forums, chemistry prediction tools and compatibility profiling.

Traditional dating services take on the full responsibility of finding you a date or potential mate and charge a fee for their matchmaking services and relationship coaching. Typically, you would meet with a traditional matchmaker in person and discuss your dating/relationship expectations and complete an in-depth questionnaire about yourself and what you are looking for in a date/mate. Members of traditional dating services can rest easy while professional matchmaking experts work to find compatible matches. Background screenings on all members as well as divorce decree checks are additional benefits of some traditional dating services.

Is there a real cost difference?

Although there may be a nominal fee involved with online dating, there is the value of your time and how much of it you need to invest in searching online for potential matches. An attractive online profile may yield hundreds of hits per day – and it’s especially time consuming to sort through them all. Time means money and many people just don’t have time to spare to peruse for potential dates.

Whether you use a traditional dating service or an online dating site, it really boils down to personal preference. Some traditional dating services provide more peace of mind to their clients by offering added benefits such as screenings and background checks on all members. With online dating, there is no third party confirmation that members are who they claim to be and you have to rely upon what your potential date tells you.

Falzone continued, “There are still a lot of people who are intimidated with online dating and prefer to use traditional matchmaking services. Then, there are others who really enjoy seeking out and meeting potential matches online. Online dating sites have significantly more members to choose from while the bricks and mortar dating services have fewer members, yet provide a more ‘local’ membership base and a much higher level of customer service. So again, comfort level really is the deciding factor for most people when it comes to choosing online dating or traditional matchmaking services.”

DATELINE: NORWELL, MA…There’s a swanky work event coming up and the boss has made it clear that attendance is mandatory. Most of your colleagues and clients who will be attending it are married. No one expects you to fly solo, so bringing a date to the big event is imperative.

The challenge is whether or not your date is up to it. First impressions are everything, and in the work realm, who you bring as a date to an event can have lasting repercussions on your career.

Dating expert Paul A. Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating, one of the world’s largest brick-and-mortar dating services with more than 60 offices nationwide, has been helping singles maneuver the dating cubicles for decades.

Falzone shares five tips for bringing a date to a work event:

· Invite your date well ahead of time to the event to ensure that your date is not only available, but that s/he has enough time to prepare for the event. Advanced planning gives your date plenty of time for getting a haircut, buying a dress, renting a tux and so on. At the very least, you should ask a week in advance.

· Make sure your date has all the details of the event. S/he will need to know whether the affair is black tie or a more casual event in order to wear the proper attire. You should also inform her/him of where and when it will take place. Is it an awards ceremony? Will there be a four course meal or simply hors d’oeuvres? Will there be dancing or is it more of a networking event? What will be expected of her/him?

· Brief your date on the “who’s who” of the event. Be sure s/he knows (and understands the importance of) the “players” at the event such as C-level executives, key clients and anyone else you need to make a good impression upon.

· Above all, choose your date carefully. If you know that s/he is extremely uncomfortable in social situations or tends to imbibe a little too much, you may want to reconsider asking her/him to accompany you to a work event.

· Don’t invite a date out of guilt. So, you really like this guy you’re dating, but you just know he would not be a good fit for the event. Listen to your instincts. You know your boss, colleagues and clients better than he does and there are times when it’s best to keep business and your personal life separate. First impressions count, especially in the corporate world.

“Who you bring as a date to a work event reflects on you. You may be dating the sweetest person on earth, but if they have trouble stopping at one glass of wine and end up getting drunk, it’s going to embarrass you and your company and at the very least, your sound judgment will be questioned,” said Falzone.

He continued, “Trust your own judgment. If you have confidence in your date and have covered all the bases by asking her/him in advance and briefing her/him about the event, you should be able to rest easy.”

Will you get a second date?…How the follow-up call can open door wider or slam it shut.

March 5, 2009 //  by admin

NORWELL, MA…

So, you’ve gone out on your first date with somebody you just met. It went pretty well.  Perhaps even very well. So, now what? The follow-up call can be the determining factor on whether a second date or more occurs.

Paul A. Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating–one of the world’s largest brick-and-mortar dating services with more than 60 offices nationwide—has given follow up advice to hundreds of clients before and after first dates.

“A good first date—or even a great one—doesn’t always mean there will be a second one. That’s why it’s best after that first date has gone well to take a step back and evaluate before taking the next step, the follow up call,” said Falzone. “And when you do follow up with your date, you want to be clear in your own mind that: A. you want a second date and (b) they want a second date and conduct the conversation accordingly.”

Some follow-up call guidelines include:

●        Let it breathe – Wait a minimum of 24 hours before calling after the first date. If it truly was a great date, he or she won’t be with somebody else if you wait a day before calling.

●        Email and texting counts – A post-date e-mail or text might seem harmless, but it really does interfere with the evaluation process. The follow-up call should actually be a phone call.

●        Not at the office – Make sure you make your follow-up call at a time when your date is available to talk.

●        At the sound of the tone – Be prepared to leave a voice mail in case he or she is not available. Keep it simple, don’t try to make a second date via voice mail. Just ask them to call.

●        Two strikes rule – Call once and he/she doesn’t return the call, shame on them. Call more than twice without a return, shame on you.

●        Keep it light – The gist of the follow-up call should be that you had a great time and ask if he/she wants to it again. Even if you spent the nice tossing and turning over what a great time you had, do not share that. Those make for great stories down the road. Get the second date first.

“It’s great to be excited about somebody after a first date. What’s even better is to be even more excited after two. If’ your goal is for something lasting, there’s nothing wrong with taking it slow and making sure it really is, pun intended, the right one for you,” said Falzone.

No recession on love – Internet dating executives report increased revenues and membership numbers

February 19, 2009 //  by admin

NEW YORK, NY

When members of the Internet Dating Executive Alliance (IDEA) met last month at the Miami Internet Dating Conference (InternetDatingConference.com) the economy was a popular topic of discussion. Yet unlike the doom and gloom you might hear at conferences for any other industry, much of the talk centered on how numbers across the board are holding or are up for Internet dating sites– in spite of the economy.

Hitwise Competitive Intelligence reports that the Internet dating industry gained 12 percent more site visits in 2008 over 2007.  The peak period for Internet dating sites is November through Valentine’s Day each year.  Hitwise reports that the top 100 dating sites gained two percent more site visits for the three-month period of November 2007 to January 2008 versus November 2008 to January 2009.  Free dating sites gained 55 percent more visits in the same period.

For example:

●        Plentyoffish.com – the top ranking free dating site – U.S. traffic is up 33% since August; two billion monthly page views.

●        Match.com – 22% more paying memberships in December 2008 vs. December 2007

●        PerfectMatch.com – Q4  2008 revenues increased 42% over the prior quarter.

●        WorldSingles.com – network of niche dating services that includes Arablounge.com, EligibleGreeks.com and IranianPersonals.com – 10% increase in sales from Q4 2008 compared to Q4 2007.

●        TogetherChrisitan.com – “paying sign-ups” increased 23.8% from August 2008 to January 2009.

●        Meet Market Adventures – activity-based social networking site – up more than 60% since August 2008, both in new member sign-ups and attendance for the site’s 200+ events.

●        WhiteLabelDating.com – vast network of niche dating brands – 23.25% increase in site traffic from August 2008 to present; 76.3% increase in membership over the last two months; January 2009 revenue 73.48% higher than August 2008.

●        EasyDate.biz – BeNaughty.com and 200+ dating brands – revenue is up 107% in 2008.  Revenue rose 18% from Q3 to Q4 2008.

●        SelectAlternatives.com – a network of 24 local city dating sites offered via alternative weekly newspapers – from August, 2008 to Jan. 2008; 3% increase in membership revenues, 9% increase in total unique visitors and 10% increase in total visits.

“If there’s one silver lining of a difficult economy it’s that it makes people take a step back and look at their lives. Many come to the realization they don’t want to go through life alone. Internet dating sites give them a viable and affordable way to find that special somebody,” said Mark Brooks, president of the Internet Dating Executive Alliance.

Eat your heart out…Capture your Valentine’s heart with a home-cooked meal

February 9, 2009 //  by admin

NORWELL, MA…

Flowers, candy and cards. While this may be the big three on Valentine’s Day, having a romantic meal at your sweetie’s favorite restaurant ranks right up there, too. The crunch of the current economy has many couples opting to eat in on Valentine’s Day. According to love expert Paul A. Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating–one of the world’s largest brick-and-mortar dating services with more than 60 offices nationwide—that doesn’t necessarily mean romance has to take a backseat.

“Cooking a romantic meal for your loved one can be every bit as romantic as going out. In fact, if you put some imagination into it, staying home for Valentine’s Day can put some extra spice into your relationship,” said said Falzone.

So, what can you do for a Valentine’s Day meal at home? Falzone offers some of the following suggestions:

●        Surprise your partner with breakfast in bed. Even a morning cup of coffee served with toast cut into heart shapes can be a gourmet meal when served in bed.

●        Dress up for your Valentine’s Day dinner. Just because you’re not going out, doesn’t mean you can’t have a formal dinner, complete with soft music in the background, candlelight, etc. Being at home also makes it easier to slip into something more comfortable later.

●        Adorn the table with rose petals leading a path to your Valentine’s Day card and/or gift.

●        Buy a bottle of his/her favorite wine and have it chilled (if white or blush) in a bucket at the table. Better yet, have champagne on the table.

●        Serve the aphrodisiac of your choice as an appetizer: chocolate, oysters, caviar, honey or strawberries.

●        Cook your partner’s favorite dish for dinner; if you don’t cook, most grocery stores have pre-cooked meals that simply need to be reheated.

●        Pick out a dessert for your partner, and vice versa, and feed it to them with their eyes closed.

●        Buy your significant other’s favorite massage oil and give him/her a foot and/or body rub to close out the “date”.

“There are many advantages to staying in on Valentine’s besides giving your bank account a break. Most obvious, without the distractions that going out on a Saturday night, the day/night can really be about you and your partner. And that’s truly what the holiday was meant to be about,” said Falzone.

New Year, New Approach to Dating

November 13, 2008 //  by admin

BALTIMORE, MD AND NORWELL, MA…

Another holiday spent solo while everyone else seems to have a significant other?  Even though you may not have trouble finding a date, has finding a date that turns into a lasting relationship always eluded you?  If so, you are in the same boat as many singles today.  The real question is…How do you turn things around and build a successful relationship?

If you are among the singles out there that keep ending up with the wrong one, Paul A. Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating, one of the world’s largest brick-and-mortar dating services with more than 60 offices nationwide, has a few tips to help you out of your dating rut and create a fresh approach to dating in the new year.

“Dating is a lot like when you learned to ride a bike when you were a kid. Sure, you fell off the bike a time or two, but you kept getting back on, never forgetting what made you fall off. Fortunately with dating, you have the benefit of learning from others how not to fall the next time,” said Falzone.

So, how do you begin the new year with a fresh outlook on dating? Here are some tips for finding the right one in the new year:

  • Take a look at your past relationships.  Although you may not have a “type”, did each relationship have something in common?  Do you choose partners based on how they make you feel (important in front of your friends, needed, over-protected, etc.)?
  • Leave enough time between the end of one relationship and the beginning of the next.  When a relationship ends on a bad note, it is normal to seek the attention of another, but be sure your wounds are healed first.
  • Consider a dating hiatus.  What you really might need is “you” time.  Focus on yourself for three to six months before getting back to dating.  Try boosting your self-esteem without a partner.  Find new people to spend time with or new hobbies to enjoy.  This may help you adopt a fresh attitude towards relationships.
  • Give new relationships proper time to develop.  Enjoy each phase as it comes and do not rush it.  Approach each date as a chance to have fun and evaluate the true person.
  • Long-term relationship lagging?  If you are in a long-term relationship that is breaking down due to major life changes or lack of romance, make time to nurture the partnership.  Do not sweep problems under the carpet.  Bring them to the forefront and do not be afraid to confront one another.  Professionals agree that arguing is often the first sign that a bond is improving.  Without this open communication, not only do the issues persist, but feelings eventually go dead and you are left with a lifeless relationship.
