DirectBuy of DuPage County

A green investment… DirectBuy of DuPage County donation to Arbor Day Foundation to help replant trees in damaged forests.

May 12, 2010 //  by admin

CHICAGO, GURNEE, HOFFMAN ESTATES, NAPERVILLE, TINLEY PARK, IL …

To help celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, DirectBuy of DuPage County hosted two Green Energy Seminars for its members. And while attendees learned how to run their homes more efficiently and take advantage of government appliance rebates, Club Owner Jeremy Vest felt a grander green gesture was in order. To that end, he donated $100 to the Arbor Day Foundation’s Replanting Our National Forests program.

In cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, the Arbor Day Foundation is planting new trees in U.S. forests damaged by natural and other catastrophes (e.g. California wildfires). For every $1 donated, one tree will be planted in these damaged forests. DirectBuy of DuPage County’s contribution represents 100 new trees to be planted in one of these damaged forests.

“We applaud our members’ efforts to educate themselves on how they can run their homes in a more energy-efficient manner and what better way to recognize greener living than planting a tree,” said Vest.

Build Energy Experts, LLC, the industry leading Building Energy Auditor, Energy Retrofit, LED Lighting, and Alternative Energy specialist for government, commercial, and residential applications, conducted the two Green Energy sessions. Topics covered included:

  • Incentives (tax incentives, grants, Homestar)
  • Energy Audits
  • Weatherization (insulation; energy-efficient remodeling)
  • Whole House Ventilation System
  • LED Lighting
  • Renewable Energy
    • Solar Photovoltaic
    • Domestic Hot Water Solar Systems
    • Wind Energy
    • Geo Thermal Heating and Cooling

“We pride ourselves on helping our members save money on their home improvement projects and home furnishings,” said Vest. “By offering seminars like this, we not only enhance the value of their membership, but give them the resources to reduce their carbon footprint.”

For more than 39 years, DirectBuy Clubs have offered members the opportunity to enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products, flooring, and accessories by purchasing from more than 700 brand-name manufacturers or authorized suppliers. Good puck! DirectBuy of Chicago North, DirectBuy of DuPage County and DirectBuy of Lake County host raffle for Blackhawk tickets.

March 4, 2010 //  by admin

CHICAGO, GURNEE, HOFFMAN ESTATES, NAPERVILLE, TINLEY PARK, IL …

The Olympic break is over and DirectBuy Club has just the ticket – two tickets actually – to get Blackhawks fans ready for the NHL Playoffs. This March, DirectBuy of Chicago North, DirectBuy of DuPage County and DirectBuy of Lake County will help fans get playoff-ready by entering them for the chance to win two tickets to the Chicago Blackhawks versus St. Louis Blues game on Wednesday, April 7, 2010.

“Even though it’s an Original Six team dating back to the very beginning of the NHL, I think it’s safe to say that Chicago Blackhawks fever right now is at an all-time high,” said Mark Perry, DirectBuy of Lake County’s Managing Partner. “We’re really looking forward to this month-long celebration of what we hope will become a drive toward the Stanley Cup.

Fans who attend an Open House at either DirectBuy of Chicago North, DirectBuy of DuPage County or DirectBuy of Lake County will automatically be entered into the drawing and also receive a piece of authentic NHL apparel or memorabilia, while supplies last. The promotion officially kicked off on March 6th and will run through March 31st, with the winner being announced on April 2, 2010.

“In just a few short years, the Blackhawks went from taking a backseat to the Bulls to the hottest ticket in town. That’s why this drawing is particularly exciting because not everybody has access to or can afford to buy tickets,” said Brent Gilliland, Managing Partner at DirectBuy of Chicago North. “We set up this special raffle to celebrate what’s been a very successful year for the Blackhawks and hopefully a shot at a championship.”

While the raffle itself will award two tickets to a Blackhawks game to some lucky fan, DirectBuy Club also offers everything else hockey fans could possibly need to watch the playoffs from home – flat screen TVs, recliners and home theater seating, even kegerators for your den or entertainment room – at direct insider prices from your favorite brand names. In addition, each DirectBuy Club employs product specialists and designers who can help members create the “man cave” or entertainment room that works best for their home.

Fans can also enter by sending their name, address, phone number and e-mail address on a 3 x 5 index card to DirectBuy, Attn: Mike Georgeff, 8450 Broadway, Merrillville, IN 46410.

For more than 38 years, DirectBuy Clubs have offered members the opportunity to enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products, flooring, and accessories by purchasing from more than 700 brand-name manufacturers or their authorized suppliers. In addition to DirectBuy of Chicago North, DirectBuy of DuPage County and DirectBuy of Lake County, DirectBuy also has convenient locations in greater Chicago (Tinley Park and Hoffman Estates).

Taking your cabinets to the cleaners…DirectBuy locations in and around Chicago provide tips on caring for your wood cabinetry.

July 9, 2009 //  by admin

CHICAGO, GURNEE, HOFFMAN ESTATES, NAPERVILLE, TINLEY PARK, IL …

Short of building an addition on your home, replacing or refacing your kitchen cabinets is one of the more expensive remodeling projects you can undertake. So, the upkeep of your cabinets on a day-to-day basis is an important factor in protecting your investment. The DirectBuy club locations of greater Chicago, the leading home improvement and furnishings club with direct insider prices, have some helpful tips on protecting that investment with regular cleanings.

“Many people make the investment in wooden kitchen cabinets and then either go overboard cleaning, use the wrong type of cleaners, or don’t clean enough,” said I.J. Sell, owner of DirectBuy of Tinley Park. “It really doesn’t take much effort or know-how to keep your new cabinets looking new.”

Typical cleaning can be done with a clean, damp cloth as long as you dry thoroughly. For stains, clean your wood cabinets with an emulsion-type cleaner (e.g. Murphy’s Soap). Avoid using wax polishes with petroleum solvents as these can result in wax buildup. Not to mention that petroleum solvents are also flammable and toxic if swallowed. Same goes for wax polishes with silicones, which can also harm the cabinet’s wood.

Moisture is an enemy of wood cabinets, so you’ll want to wipe up spills as they occur. Also, pay special attention to the areas around the kitchen sink and dishwasher, two areas prone to moisture. Be sure not to drape damp kitchen towels over the sink basin so that any part of the cloth rests on the wood. This can cause permanent damage if you’re not careful.

For your cabinets’ hardware, mild soap and water should be used to clean drawer knobs and pulls. Polishes for the knobs or lubricants for the drawers typically aren’t necessary. Just be sure to dry thoroughly with a clean cloth as, once again, water is the main foe in sustaining the beauty of your cabinetry.

“According to Remodeling magazine, new kitchen cabinets have an ROI of nearly 80 percent at resale. That’s a greater return on your investment than any other indoor remodel,” said Sell. “By simply making a point to keep your cabinets clean and dry and swiftly clean spills and stains, you can maintain that value for years to come.”

DirectBuy carries a large selection of kitchen cabinets at wholesale prices direct from the manufacturers and their authorized suppliers. In addition, each DirectBuy club employs product specialists and designers who can help members create the kitchen or bath that works best for their home.

Since 1971, DirectBuy clubs have offered members the opportunity to enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products and accessories by buying wholesale, directly from the manufacturer. With four convenient locations in the greater Chicago area (Chicago, Gurnee, Hoffman Estates, Naperville, and Tinley Park), consumers can enjoy a comfortable, country-club setting, where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.

Why ENERGY STAR makes dollars and sense.

May 15, 2009 //  by admin

CHICAGO, HOFFMAN ESTATES, NAPERVILLE, TINLEY PARK, ILLINOIS …

Most people want to know what they can do to make their dollar go further, particularly when purchasing household appliances. While most consumers have their eyes on the price tag, it really should be on how much it costs to power those appliances, and that’s where ENERGY STAR comes in.

ENERGY STAR is the program created by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to reduce energy consumption. Typically, ENERGY STAR products offer 20 to 30 percent savings on your energy bills. The DirectBuy clubs of greater Chicago, the leading home improvement and furnishings club with direct insider prices, sell a wide ride range of ENERGY STAR products to help members save.

“The irony about ENERGY STAR products is the program itself was set up to combat the negative effect running our appliances was having on our environment,” said Jeremy Vest, owner of DirectBuy of DuPage County. “While most people do want to minimize their carbon footprint, in today’s economy, it’s just as much about how much you can save by having appliances that run more efficiently.”

So, how much can you save by purchasing ENERGY STAR appliances? Here’s a small sampling:

  • Clothes washers – replacing a 10-year-old washing machine with a new ENERGY STAR machine can save a household more than $145 per year.
  • Dishwashers – ENERGY STAR dishwashers use 41 percent less energy and water than non-ENERGY STAR washers. That translates to $30 a year on your utility bill.
  • Refrigerators – a typical two-door, freezer-on-top refrigerator can cost $100 per year to run. Upgrading to ENERGY STAR can knock $30 per year off that, resulting in savings of $350 in just five years.
  • Home electronics – the average household spends $100 per year powering electronics devices in “standby” mode. ENERGY STAR products use less energy when in standby.
  • LED Lighting – requires 75 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs and lasts 25 times longer. According to energystar.gov, LED lighting can last more than 25,000 hours than its incandescent counterparts or more than 22 years!

“As if the tremendous savings ENERGY STAR products offer weren’t enough, the U.S. government also offers tax exemptions, rebates and other incentives for consumers to purchase more energy-efficient items like ENERGY STAR products,” said Vest. “As a company that deals specifically in home improvement, you often hear the expression that this project will pay for itself, meaning resale. Yet when it comes to ENERGY STAR products, they literally do pay for themselves over time.”

DirectBuy carries a large selection of ENERGY STAR products and appliances at wholesale prices direct from manufacturers or their authorized suppliers. In addition, each DirectBuy club employs product specialists and designers who can help members select the appliance that works best for their works best for their home.

Your bathroom as the new living room

January 26, 2009 //  by admin

CHICAGO, GURNEE, HOFFMAN ESTATES, NAPERVILLE, TINLEY PARK, IL …

In the modern home, our bathrooms have transformed from a room of necessity to one of luxury – a place where we can rinse away the stresses of the day and relax in peaceful tranquility. The popularity of bathroom remodeling has followed this shift toward lavishness in a variety of ways.

Homeowners have added hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms and other features to create more of a home spa where they can unwind at the end of a long day.  According to DirectBuy, the leading members-only showroom and home design center, that trend has led homeowners to take a closer look at the design of their new “living room.”

“It’s quite natural that when you spend more time in a room, you’re going to want it to be pleasing to the eye and functional—even if that room is the bathroom. When you’re talking about creating a bathroom/home spa, that’s even more important. That’s why homeowners should take a step back and consider their options when planning a dream bathroom,” said Jeremy Vest, owner of DirectBuy of DuPage County.

When it comes to creating their dream bathroom, most homeowners want features they’ve seen in their favorite hotels while vacationing. Those can include:

  • A separate tub and enlarged shower area, as opposed to a shower stall, with enough space so there’s no need for a shower curtain.
  •  Drawer space in the sink vanities, even as part of the bathtub; reducing clutter-driven anxiety.
  •  Warm, neutral colors and earth tones to create a calming, natural atmosphere; utilizing stones like granite and bamboo can foster this effect.
  •  Plenty of natural lighting, if possible; halogen bulbs are another alternative that can help to create a soft lighting effect.
  •  Radiant, heated floors.
  •  Multiple body sprayers for the shower or rain showerheads, which as the name indicates, simulate rain.
  •  A steam bath within the shower area to save space.
  • Drying area within the shower space.
  • Separate room or partition for the commode.

The cost of creating your “dream bathroom” can vary, ranging anywhere from $5,000 for the cost-conscious to $50,000 or more. While either end of that spectrum might seem exorbitant depending on your budget, bathroom renovations have slowly crept up on kitchen renovations as the home improvement most likely to recoup costs at resale. In fact, Remodeling magazine’s 2007 report suggests major bathroom remodels will recoup 78.3 percent of the costs, to 78.1 percent major kitchen remodels.

“While most people don’t create their dream bathroom for their home’s next owner, it certainly is a nice extra to know it can dramatically improve the value of the entire home,” adds Karuna Talwar, owner of DirectBuy of Gurnee.

DirectBuy offers everything you need for your dream bathroom—hot tub, showers, flooring, vanities, etc.—at wholesale prices direct from the manufacturers and their authorized suppliers. In addition, DirectBuy also employs product specialists and designers, so if you’re stuck for ideas, you have professionals at your service who can create the look that works best for you and your family.

NAPERVILLE, IL…

DirectBuy of DuPage County, the leading members-only showroom and home design center that offers merchandise directly from manufacturers and their authorized suppliers, recently unveiled its brand new showroom at 1864 Highgrove Lane, Suite 136.

The 20,000-square-foot facility features a brand new, luxurious showroom, complete with Kids Zone for members with children, and comfortable viewing areas for members to research items. The larger facility also provides more space for showroom displays and storage in the warehouse.

“DirectBuy of DuPage County had been in our previous location for 25 years and, quite simply, we’d outgrown the space. With our new location, which is just down the street from the previous site at 127 Ambassador Drive, we’ve improved the DirectBuy experience exponentially. Not to mention the extraordinary difference the extra space makes for our warehouse operation,” said Jeremy Vest, owner of DirectBuy of DuPage County.

DirectBuy of DuPage County offers low insider pricing on products ranging from light fixtures to televisions to kitchen cabinets, all from more than 700 manufacturers and their authorized suppliers. DirectBuy also offers design services to its members, as well as a listing of local contractors who offer installation services to DirectBuy members, many times at a discounted rate.

Since 1971, DirectBuy franchises have offered members the opportunity to enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products and accessories by buying wholesale, directly from the manufacturer. With five convenient locations in the greater Chicago area (Chicago, Gurnee, Hoffman Estates, Naperville, and Tinley Park), consumers can enjoy a comfortable, country-club setting, where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.
