Directbuy of Buffalo

Polish off your spring cleaning…DirectBuy of Buffalo provides tips on stainless steel care.

May 15, 2009 //  by admin

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY…

Mention “spring cleaning” and most people think of cleaning out the garage. Or perhaps spreading seed on your lawn or mulching your flower garden. Yet giving the interior of your home a thorough cleaning after a long winter indoors can pick up your spirits like the first 70-degree day of spring. DirectBuy of Buffalo, the leading home improvement and furnishings club with direct insider prices, has some helpful tips on cleaning some of the toughest spots you might encounter during your spring cleaning: your stainless steel appliances.

“You’ll probably find stainless steel in the majority of homes nowadays on everything from refrigerators to stoves to countertops,” said Mark Klinger, owner of DirectBuy of Buffalo. “In terms of keeping stainless clean, what you should NOT do is every bit as important as what you should do.”

For example, when cleaning stainless steel, you’ll want to completely avoid using the following:

  • Products containing chlorine
  • Steel wool or brushes
  •  Abrasive cleaners

For the most part, you can simply use soapy water and a soft cloth to clean your stainless steel appliances. For tougher stains, you may need to use a stainless steel cleaner and there are many types on the market today. You’ll just need to find one that works for you.

In addition, there are also a number of products on the market that can reduce the smudge-ability factor of stainless steel, a big issue if you have little ones. Zeps is one product that works well on smudges; Simple Human puts out a sponge mitt that’s also effective in removing and minimizing finger print marks.

Regardless of the type of cleaner you use, any residue left on the surface may permanently damage the finish. Always rinse off the surface after cleaning. If you follow the above advice and still have spots or stains, it may be caused by your water. Hard water can leave spots, but drying completely after cleaning will usually fix this problem.

“Stainless steel sure looks great, but it’s something that needs regular maintenance to keep it looking that way,” said Klinger. “By following the above steps and completely cleaning your stainless steel appliances at least once a week, you can prolong the beauty of your appliances for years to come.”

DirectBuy carries a large selection of stainless steel appliances at wholesale prices direct from manufacturers or their authorized suppliers. In addition, each DirectBuy club employs product specialists and designers who can help members create the kitchen or bath that works best for their home.

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY…

DirectBuy of Buffalo, the leading home improvement and furnishings club with direct insider prices, recently hired Bruce Kiernan, an East Amherst resident, as a membership director for the club.

As a membership director, Kiernan is responsible for presenting the DirectBuy opportunity to prospective members, conducting tours of the DirectBuy of Buffalo club and answering questions prospective members might have prior to making their decision.

“Bruce has been a great addition to our team. He brings a lot of energy to the table and has a passion for the value DirectBuy brings to our members’ lives,” said Mark Klinger, owner of DirectBuy of Buffalo.

A former mortgage broker and banker, Kiernan has served as a senior vice president at HSBC, a vice president with Wells Fargo and owned his own mortgage finance company in his 30-plus year career. It’s an experience that’s served him well at DirectBuy.

Doing good does some good. Henry named DirectBuy of Buffalo’s “Do-Gooder” of the month for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure participation.

April 22, 2009 //  by admin

CHEEKTOWAGA, NEW YORK

As a tribute to her aunt Pam Oehler and co-worker Mercedes Zoldos—both breast cancer survivors–DirectBuy of Buffalo’s Marcia Henry decided to organize a team to take part in this year’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure walk/run on June 13. Little did she realize her effort to raise funds and awareness towards breast cancer would earn her DirectBuy of  Buffalo’s Do-Gooder of the Month for March.

“The Do-Gooder of the Month award recognizes employees and vendors of DirectBuy of Buffalo going above and beyond the call of duty, at work or in their efforts in the community. Marcia organizing a team as a tribute to her aunt and Mercedes certainly meets that criteria and we’re delighted to honor her with March’s Do’Gooder award,” said Mark Klinger, owner of DirectBuy of Buffalo.

As for DirectBuy of Buffalo’s Do-Gooder of the Month, beyond the recognition, the recipient receives restaurant gift certificate. Yet according to Henry, a Hamburg resident, the real work has just begun.

“DirectBuy has been very supportive of my efforts and receiving the Do Gooder award is proof of that. At this point, however, I’m just looking to get a team together and to raise some funds. And if I can do that, I’m more than happy to use my Do Gooder restaurant gift certificates to treat my Race for the Cure team,” said Henry, marketing associate at DirectBuy of Buffalo.

The Race will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 13th, 2009 in the Delaware Park Rose Garden. Through the Race for the Cure series, the Western New York Affiliate has raised close to $2 million. Seventy-five percent of the money raised has been awarded in grants and outreach programs focused on unmet breast health needs within Western New York. The remaining 25% is invested in critical research through the Komen National Award Program.

“Whether is a family member, co-worker, friend or loved one, breast cancer has hit somebody you know. Taking part or donating to the Race for the Cure is just one small thing everybody can do to help find a cure,” said Henry.

DirectBuy clubs across Canada and the United States are active contributors to many local non-profits and charities, including the Boys & Girls Clubs, Salvation Army and other South Shore YMCA, Homes for Our Troops and Children’s Hospital. In addition, DirectBuy of Buffalo donates slightly damaged items that manufacturers will not exchange to the Delaware Avenue Baptist Church in Buffalo.

Several of man’s best friends enjoyed a post-winter grooming at the March 21 event held at the DirectBuy of Buffalo in Cheektowaga, less than one mile from the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport. Park N Bark provided the grooming services and donated all proceeds from the event to Buffalo Humane, a non-profit organization working for the safety, health, and welfare of companion animals in the Buffalo area.

For their part of the Groomathon, Buffalo Humane brought along pets for adoption.

“Our customers and the public really responded to this good cause,” noted Mark Klinger, owner of DirectBuy of Buffalo.  He added, “We fully booked up the groomer’s schedule and the children enjoyed playing with the dogs brought by Buffalo Humane. In fact, one of our staff members enjoyed it so much they adopted a dog.”

Giving blood is no laughing matter…Blood drive set for April 1 at DirectBuy of Buffalo in Cheektowaga

March 11, 2009 //  by admin

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY…

When it comes to giving blood, there’s no fooling around…even on April 1. That’s when DirectBuy of Buffalo, located at 4950 Genesee Street in Cheektowaga, will host a blood drive with the American Red Cross.

The American Red Cross Traveling Donor Center will be at DirectBuy of Buffalo’s 4950 Genesee Street location—less than a mile from the Buffalo-Niagra International Airport—from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Donors from the general public are welcome to attend. Walk-ins are welcome. Though due to limited space in the Donor Center, the Red Cross encourages donors to make an appointment by calling DirectBuy of Buffalo at 716-684-1400.

“The people of greater Buffalo have a pretty good track record of donating blood. With the winter we’ve had this year, it’s been tough for people who ordinarily give to get out and donate. By holding this drive, we’re hoping to draw enough people to make up for some of that,” said Mark Klinger, owner of DirectBuy of Buffalo. “We urge all able bodied Buffalo residents to come out and donate. Donating blood can literally save lives.”

Donated blood plays a critical role in surgery and emergency care. A unit of blood can save as many as three lives.

Charitable endeavors are nothing new for DirectBuy. DirectBuy locations across Canada and the United States are active contributors to many local non-profits and charities, including the Boys & Girls Clubs, Salvation Army, YMCAs, Homes for Our Troops and Children’s Hospitals. Cassandra Hall named DirectBuy of Buffalo’s “Do-Gooder” of the month.

March 2, 2009 //  by admin

CHEEKTOWAGA, NEW YORK…

DirectBuy of Buffalo, the leading home improvement and furnishings club with direct insider prices, established the “Do-Gooder of the Month” award to recognize employees, vendors and even members going above and beyond the call of duty—either on the job or in their everyday lives. January’s winner is Cassandra Hall, interior designer at DirectBuy of Buffalo.

As lead designer, Hall provides assistance to members for any number of things, ranging from reviewing floor plans to selecting home furnishings. Recently, Hall added in-home consultation as a service she offers DirectBuy of Buffalo members as a vendor/consultant. This service has been particularly well received and a good example of why Hall earned January’s “Do Gooder” award.

“Cassandra goes above and beyond the call of duty. By offering the in-home consultation service to members on top of what she does here in the Club, it not only helps the member feel more comfortable with the design choices they make for their home, but helps them get more value out of their DirectBuy membership. That makes the member happy and that’s what we’re always shooting for,” said Mark Klinger, owner of DirectBuy of Buffalo.

As DirectBuy of Buffalo’s Do-Gooder of the Month, beyond the recognition, the recipient receives a restaurant gift certificate.

“When it comes to redesigning a room, many people have no idea where to start. By doing the in-home consultation, I can get a sense of what they like about their current space and apply it to a design that flows with the other rooms in their home but also gives it fresh, new look,” said Hall. “It’s a service I’m quite happy to provide. And if it wins me a restaurant gift certificate to boot, that’s just icing on the cake.”

Hall began with DirectBuy of Buffalo in March 2008 after working for Buffalo Design and Construction. A Depew resident, she holds an associate’s degree in interior design from Villa Maria College of Buffalo.

Members of DirectBuy have access to thousands of items, including kitchen cabinets, flat-screen televisions and major appliances from hundreds of top manufacturers and their authorized suppliers. Since DirectBuy offers brand-name merchandise with no traditional retail markup, members are able to save hundreds, even thousands, of dollars on purchases for their homes.

To assist with home renovation, DirectBuy members also have access to licensed interior designers and product specialists who are specifically trained in one of five areas of merchandise: Home Furnishings, Home Improvement, Flooring, Accessories, and Entertainment/Outdoor.

Conveniently located at 4950 Genesee Street in Cheektowaga, New York, DirectBuy offers members a comfortable setting where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.
