“Don’s done an amazing job as a marketing manager for us. Zappia began with DirectBuy in October of 2008 as a marketing manager. In his career, he had been involved in several businesses both in New York and Nevada. Zappia attended Medaille College in Buffalo.

Silent gesture speaks volumes. DirectBuy of Buffalo donates auction items for Owl Family Picnic Chinese Auction.

DirectBuy of Buffalo, the leading home improvement and furnishings club with direct insider prices, recently donated $800 worth of furniture to the Chinese Auction held during the 21st Annual Owl Family Picnic at the George F. Lamm VFW Post in Williamsville on August 23.

Proceeds from the Chinese Auction went to several area non-profits, most notably Camp Good Days and Special Times, Mercy Flight of Western New York, Former Troopers Helping Hands and the St. Adalbert’s Center.

“We’re happy to donate those items to efforts like the Chinese Auction at the Owl Family Picnic because of the phenomenal work the charities involved do, particularly with sick children. said Mark Klinger, owner of DirectBuy of Buffalo. “It’s an absolute privilege to take part in this event each year.”

The charities benefitting from the Chinese Auction include:

  • Camp Good Days and Special Times – a non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges.
  • Mercy Flight of Western New York – an independent, not-for-profit provider of emergency air medical transport.
  • Former Troopers Helping Hands – an organization dedicated to fulfilling the wishes of all children and young adults with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
  • St. Adalbert’s Center – dedicated to helping poverty-stricken individuals and families. They empower people to take responsibility for their lives and encourage self-sufficiency through dignity and compassion.

Becky Dentinger named DirectBuy of Buffalo’s August “Do-Gooder” of the month.

DirectBuy of Buffalo, the leading home improvement and furnishings club with direct insider prices, established the “Do-Gooder of the Month” award to recognize employees, vendors and even members going above and beyond the call of duty—either on the job or in their everyday lives. August’s winner is Becky Dentinger, a service specialist, for the quantity and quality of member testimonials received last month.

As a service specialist, Dentinger works closely with DirectBuy members in helping them make their selections. Utilizing her construction experience and education—she’s currently studying interior design at Villa Maria College—she’s able to find members the products they need at direct insider prices.

“It’s a worn out cliché but for Becky it’s absolutely true. She goes above and beyond the call of duty for our members and it shows in the number of favorable comments we get specifically citing her service. The fact that she does it while balancing a full course load at college makes it even more impressive. July’s winner is Alexandria Shaban, a service specialist at DirectBuy of Buffalo, for her efforts in coordinating a silent auction and vendor meet-and-greet for DirectBuy of Buffalo members last month.

DirectBuy of Buffalo holds silent auctions once or twice a year to sell items that manufacturers do not want as part of an exchange. Typically, these items are only slightly nicked and in good working order. The silent auctions enable members to save even more through their DirectBuy membership. Shaban, as service specialist, coordinated every detail of the silent auction, a process that took about three months—in addition to her work on the meet-and-greet for the vendors.

“The silent auction and vendor event are not small undertakings. It’s pretty involved and something Alexandria took on in addition to her normal duties as service specialist. With Alexandria as the go-to person, the auction and event went off without a hitch. That makes her a very worthy recipient of our Do-Gooder of the Month award,” said Mark Klinger, owner of DirectBuy of Buffalo.

As for DirectBuy of Buffalo’s Do-Gooder of the Month, beyond the recognition, the recipient receives a restaurant gift certificate.

“Interacting with members is one of the things I love about working with DirectBuy. Produced by Ahmad Rashad’s FAN Awards Network (FAN), the Buffalo Fan Awards event honors local sports stars and legends from high school, college and professional sports in the Western New York area.

A moving experience…Buffalo resident Loretta Lewis moves into the DirectBuy of Buffalo-sponsored Guilford Street Habitat for Humanity

Good things come to those who wait. That’s more than just an adage for Loretta Lewis. It took her more than 10 years to complete the work hours necessary to become eligible for a Habitat for Humanity home. On May 22, her dream of home ownership came true as she and her son moved into her new home on Guilford Street in Buffalo.

“When I started putting in hours for Habitat, I never dreamed it would take this long. But things came up. For example, I moved to North Carolina for a while and began my studies for a nursing career,” said Lewis. “When we moved back to Buffalo, this was going to be my focus. I’m just grateful it all came to fruition and we’re now in our brand new home.”

James Zelasko receives DirectBuy’s Achievement Circle honors

Orchard Park resident James Zelasko, a membership director at DirectBuy of Buffalo, was recently awarded Achievement Circle honors by DirectBuy’s corporate offices for his dedication to helping introduce new families to DirectBuy club membership during the month of February—his 12th time earning this honor.

DirectBuy’s Achievement Circle recognizes the top performing membership directors and phone room associates at the more than 160 DirectBuy clubs across North America for their performance on a monthly basis. As a membership director, Zelasko is responsible for presenting the DirectBuy opportunity to prospective members, conducting tours of the DirectBuy of Buffalo club and answering questions prospective members might have prior to making their decision.
