Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield Launches New After-School Programs at Martinson Elementary and Daniel Webster Schools

The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield has launched After-School programming at Martinson Elementary and Daniel Webster schools in Marshfield.

After-School programming for Kindergarten to Grade 5 students is held onsite from school dismissal until 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Children will enjoy games, crafts, outdoor time and socially distant activities. The program is led by Marshfield’s professional staff.

Registration for the After-School program is available by the day or by the week to accommodate any changing needs. The program is $22.50 per day ($45 on school half-days). Financial assistance is available.

Breakfast Club Program at School & After-School Programming at the Club

The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield also offers early morning care at all five Marshfield elementary schools. The Before School program includes breakfast and is held Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until school begins.

After-School programming is also available at the Boys & Girls Club weekdays from 3 to 6 p.m. and half-day Wednesdays from 12 to 6 p.m.

Kindergarten Little Rams Lacrosse program will have a new home at the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield

The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield and Marshfield Youth Lacrosse are pleased to announce the Club will assume management of the Little Rams Program for Kindergarten-age girls and boys. The Kindergarten co-ed program is designed with the goal of teaching the fundamentals of the sport while striving to maximize player enthusiasm and a love for the sport.  

Marshfield Youth Lacrosse’s leadership team will function in an advisory capacity to the Boys & Girls Club to assist with the transition and operations.

The Kindergarten program is a skill-based development program with an emphasis on fun – from ground ball relay races and cradle tag to hungry hippos and more.  Skills practices will be held once per week. Practices are one-hour long and will be structured primarily in a “station format” with all kids receiving equal instruction.  

“We’re excited to transition the Little Rams Program to the Boys & Girls Club,” said Jim Markley, President of Marshfield Boys Youth Lacrosse. “Their values and support of youth align with the youth programs here in Marshfield and will offer the continued evolution of lacrosse for families here in our community.”

According to Jen Last, President of Marshfield Youth Girls Lacrosse, “We are happy to see the transition of the Pre-K and K lacrosse program for the town of Marshfield move over to the Boys & Girls Club. The Club is a great place to introduce the sport of lacrosse to our youngest players and we will continue to work closely with the Club to ensure a successful transition as the players progress to MYGL or MYBL in First Grade.”

“We are very enthused to take over this introduction to the amazing sport of lacrosse and teaching the fun, teamwork, and entry level skills that the game offers,” said Jim Bunnell, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield.

Marshfield Country Club donates $15K to local service organizations to support families and individuals in need

Marshfield Country Club members donated a total of $15,000 to the Marshfield Food Pantry, Marshfield Community Christmas and the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield.

In early November, the Board of Governors of Marshfield Country Club launched a drive for donations for needy families. In lieu of having their annual parties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the membership decided to help the many families and individuals who have fallen on very difficult times in Marshfield. 

“We are so grateful of their members and staff support for the kids and families who need us the most during this pandemic,” said Jim Bunnell, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield. “They are a true community partner!”

The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield is working with the Marshfield Food Pantry, the Town of Marshfield, guidelines from the state and the Marshfield Public Schools and other service organizations to provide critical services the community needs to support children and families over the short- and long-term. Among the steps they have taken to meet ongoing needs include: food distribution to food insecure families (hundreds of healthy meals per week in the form of Grab & Go meal boxes, drive-thru dinners and more); providing a safe place for kids while many parents and guardians return to work; and serving as a resource for the Board of Health and other departments to further assist families. Currently, the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield provides breakfast before school, remote support learning during the day, and traditional after school care for 100 students per day.

Drive-Thru Polar Express at the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield on December 19th

The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield and the Molly Fitzgerald Memorial Fund will hold a special Drive-Thru Polar Express event at the Club, 37 Proprietor’s Drive in Marshfield, on Saturday, December 19, 2020 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Children of all ages will enjoy a magical Drive-Thru Polar Express with multiple “station stops” for goodies and greetings from Santa’s Elves. After greetings from the conductor, families drive through to each stop which plays out the story line. Once stops have been made at all the festive stations, families have the option to wrap up their adventure with a safe, socially distant photo with Santa.

Special guests, the Marshfield High School dance team and the Forbes School of Irish Step Dancing, will perform during the event.

Santa and Mrs. Claus made an appearance last year at the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield (shown) and will be back this year for a magical Drive-Thru Polar Express at the Club on December 19.

This event is FREE to all children.

Staff and volunteers will be physically distanced, wear masks and follow safety guidelines. Families will stay safely in their cars, except during the socially distanced photo with Santa.

“The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield is excited to work with the Molly Fund and offer families this socially distanced, drive-thru alternative,” said Jim Bunnell, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield. “We’ve taken a creative approach, based on the circumstances, to give kids a safe, fun and joyful holiday event. The format is similar to our Drive-Thru Grab & Go Trick or Treat held on Halloween which was a great success, with more than 500 children coming through. We anticipate a similar turnout for the Drive-Thru Polar Express.”

Paul Reardon Named President of the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield

Paul Reardon, a resident of Marshfield, who has long been involved with the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield’s board of directors, has recently been appointed President of the board. Reardon previously served as Vice President of the board for two years.

A Certified Financial Planner, Reardon is an associate at Investment Advisory Group LLC of Hanover, MA. His financial planning career spans more than 30 years.

Boo! Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield announces special “drive through” Trick or Treat event on Halloween

The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield is offering a socially distanced, spooky, fun option to families on Halloween this year. On Saturday, October 31, 2020, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Boys & Girls Club invites families to a “Grab & Go Trick or Treat” event at 37 Proprietor’s Drive in Marshfield, MA 02050.

The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield offers an alternative to traditional trick or treating this year – a drive-through trick or treat option.

As cars enter the Boys & Girls Club driveway, volunteers wearing costumes will line-up and provide the children in each car with bags of Halloween treats.  All volunteers will be physically distanced, and families stay safely in their car.

There will be an optional “photo booth” for kids who would like pictures taken. This event is FREE to all children.

According to Jim Bunnell, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield, “As we’ve heard warnings in the news about groups gathering and going out on Halloween, we’re providing a safer option with a fun drive-thru trick or treat for families.”

Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield announces continued fundraising effort. “Rally for the Future” helps address long-term impact on youth.

With continued uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield announces a “Rally for the Future” fundraising campaign to continue to address urgent needs and help youth, families and the community overcome long-term impacts of the crisis. 

The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield continues to address urgent needs, from meals and childcare to programming, and is leading the way in helping to overcome long-term impacts from this crisis. With local schools operating on a hybrid model, the Club is providing a variety of programs to meet the needs of families with back-to-school and out-of-school care services. For example, a Breakfast Club is provided for families in need of early morning care for children before the normal school day. A Remote Learning Club provides care while kids would have traditionally been in school, Club staff assists children in accessing their remote learning. An After-School Club offers care after school which includes socially distant sport activities and recreation along with homework support.

According to Jim Bunnell, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield, “The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield has always been an essential community resource, but now more than ever, children, teens, and their families need us. We anticipate that family schedules and needs will be extended, remote learning assistance and programming needs will increase, and financial assistance requests will double. The support of our community partners, individuals and volunteers is essential.”
 
The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield is taking a holistic approach to supporting youth with priorities including the social and emotional needs, reversing learning loss, targeting the needs of various learning styles, restore a feeling of safety, and give youth and teens the programming and overall support that will enable them to realize their full potential. Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield to Oversee Marshfield Flag Football Program

The founders and leaders of the Marshfield Flag Football Program have turned over the league to the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield.

The Marshfield Flag Football Program serves more than 500 Marshfield families, with children ranging from six to 15 years old. The program is co-ed and open to all Marshfield residents.

Last year, the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield assumed management of Marshfield Flag Football’s Kindergarten to Grade 3 divisions, comprised of approximately 300 children. Effective July 1st, the founders and leaders of Marshfield Flag Football have turned over management of the entire Marshfield Flag Football Program to the Boys & Girls Club. This includes the 4th to 8th grade divisions.

Marshfield Flag Football league was founded by Marshfield residents Dante DiMassa and Mark Stiles, who established the program in 2012. They had wanted to create a fun experience for children and families and the program has been very successful and grown each year. DiMassa is Marshfield Flag Football’s treasurer/EVP and Steve Medeiros is the commissioner.

“We’re very pleased to transition the league to the Boys & Girls Club,” said DiMassa. “Their values and support of youth align with Marshfield Flag Football and the transition will be positive for the growth and continuity of the program.”

DiMassa and Marshfield Flag Football’s leadership team will function in an advisory capacity to the Club to assist with the transition and operations. They will continue to support the town’s youth through issuances of academic scholarships.

All players will benefit as they gain membership to the Boys & Girls Club along with opportunities to participate in other sports and activities offered by the Club.

“Marshfield Flag Football is a tremendous program that directly aligns with our health and fitness area of youth development,” said Jim Bunnell, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield. “Dante, Mark and the Marshfield Flag Football leadership team have dedicated themselves to building and maintaining an incredibly successful program that serves hundreds of local youth. Now, they are passing the torch on to the Club and we appreciate this wonderful opportunity.”

Vigil for George Floyd to be held June 13th at Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield athletic field

On Tuesday, the funeral service honoring the life of George Floyd, a father, brother, son and friend to many, was held in Houston. In memory of George Floyd, a vigil will be held at the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield athletic field on Saturday, June 13, 2020 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. 

This peaceful gathering, organized by Sabrina Holland of Marshfield and her team of volunteers, was originally scheduled for June 5th at Harbor Park but postponed based on safety recommendations of Police Chief Tavares. The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield was then approached to host the event, as the athletic field better accommodates a large number of people and parking is available.

The Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield condemns any act of racism or discrimination. We are proud to be hosting the vigil as it fits in with the Boys & Girls Club mission. We advocate for all youth to have the same opportunities and encourage young people to utilize and focus the power of their voice. We believe it is critical to speak up and take action. As a nation, we can and must demand change to support black people and anyone who faces systemic prejudices. Together, we must listen and take action to ensure the future is great for the youth that are counting on us.

The pain we are feeling, as a nation, as a Movement and as individuals, is real. It is not simply a reaction to the news of the past weeks. We are experiencing a moment of profound reflection on what equality and justice really mean, and how far we still need to go. 

According to Jim Bunnell, CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield, “As we honor George Floyd in this peaceful vigil, we hope to deliver a positive and constructive message, and continue to build a community that works together and treats each other with respect and equality.”
