DARTMOUTH, MA and MARION, MA…

South Coast Improvement Company, a design-build general contractor serving New England and the Mid-Atlantic states, was recently contracted by Hannoush Jewelers to build out the jeweler’s new location on Route 6 in Dartmouth. Currently, Hannoush Jewelers is located in the North Dartmouth Mall, also on Route 6 in Dartmouth.

Said Hannoush Owner Louis Silva, “We’ve really been wanting to service our customers a lot better. We have thousands of customers — we need the extra space. So we decided to do something on our own.”

The new store will be on a 3.5 acre parcel of land located on Route 6 between Brandt Avenue and Greystone Avenue. The $2.4 million project will include retail space both for Hannoush Jewelers and other retailers.

“We established a retail division earlier this year specifically for projects like this,” said Tom Quinlan, president of South Coast Improvement Company. “We are extremely excited to get started and looking forward to the diamond we create out of this rough.”

South Coast Improvement Company recently cleared trees from the new site. Work will continue throughout the remainder of 2015. A December 15, 2015 completion date is anticipated.

South Coast Improvement Co. completes summer school work, finishes renovation projects at Boston College

Conte Forum at Boston College

MARION, MA…

South Coast Improvement Company, a design-build general contractor serving New England and the Mid-Atlantic states, recently completed several renovation projects at the campus of Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Completed projects included renovations of: administrative offices at Lyons Hall and Campion Hall; men’s restrooms at Conte Forum; and classroom renovations at Fulton Hall.  South Coast Improvement is currently wrapping up an additional renovation of the Boston College Police Station.

“Unlike most college students, we like summer school because university renovation projects incorporate the elements that bring out the best in our team–design; strict, make-or-break deadlines; and working around existing operations,” said Tom Quinlan, president of South Coast Improvement Company. “A campus like BC, even during summer break is quite an active place. Besides the quality of our work, I think BC keeps hiring us for summer work because we do our best in active places under deadline.”

Over the past six years, some of the other buildings and parts of the BC campus where South Coast Improvement has completed renovation projects include: Faber House; Flynn Recreation Complex; Voute and Gabelli Halls; Ignacio Hall; Murray House; St. Clements; Yawkey Athletics and 36 College Road.

“I know in educational terms, having to repeat is not good. But repeat business is the pathway to success in our line of work,” said Quinlan. “That’s why we’re delighted to count Boston College among the number of colleges and universities in the area who have wanted us to come back for new construction and renovation projects.”

South Coast Improvement’s resume of college and university work includes repeat work at Boston University; Babson College; Holy Cross; Northeastern University; Dean College; and Mount Ida.

June 22, 2015 //  by admin

MIT's_Stata_CenterCAMBRIDGE, MA AND MARION, MA…

South Coast Improvement Company (SCI), a design-build general contractor serving New England and the Mid-Atlantic states, was recently contracted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for a renovation project at the Ray and Maria Stata Center at the school’s campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The $170,000 project calls for the conversion of a library into office space on the 7th floor of the building. Additional office space on 8th floor will be renovated.

“Over the years, we’ve done a considerable amount of work at colleges and universities in the greater Boston area but this is our first at MIT,” said Tom Quinlan, president of South Coast Improvement Company. “We’re delighted to bring our expertise to this world-renowned school and hope that it’s just the beginning of a mutually satisfying relationship.”

South Coast Improvement began work on the Stata Center project the first week of June. Completion is set for mid-August.

Work on the MIT project will be undertaken by South Coast Improvement’s private school division provides private schools. This special division offers clients the benefits of a big time general contractor with the capability to streamline smaller projects under tight deadlines.

“As a company, we routinely work on six-figure projects, with our highest being a $4 million project for an assisted living facility. We have those systems in place so that we can work on several smaller jobs at a school at once,” said Quinlan. “That’s how we have been able to get a lot of repeat business.”

That repeat business includes projects at Boston College, Boston University, Northeastern University, Mount Ida College and Dean College. Those projects have ranged from a new video room for the Men’s Locker Room at BC’s Conte Forum to conference room and new President’s office at Mount Ida to a server room for the Kostas Homeland Security Research Facility at Northeastern.

ANDOVER, MA and MARION, MA…

South Coast Improvement Company (SCI), a design-build general contractor serving New England and the Mid-Atlantic states, recently finished a restoration of the former Marland Manufacturing Company. Atria’s Marland Place, owned by Atria Senior Living Group, will be a senior living community for Andover’s active older adults.

“This project should be Exhibit A of what you can do with these old, yet historic mill properties,” said Tom Quinlan, president of South Coast Improvement. “When we started work, pigeons were living inside the building. Now, look at it. it’s gorgeous,

The $4 million renovation of the former textile mill included a complete gut and demo of the entire interior of building, as well as a repointing of the entire brick façade.

In addition, the renovated building features: all new electrical, HVAC, plumbing and Life Safety; new framing and reconfiguration of existing space to accommodate needs of incoming administrative offices with continuous ongoing consultation as to maintaining historical aspects of the building; site work around entire building to facilitate new MEP hookups and feeds as well as ensuring proper drainage; construction of a new elevator and shaft for ADA compliance; and roofing, flashing and moisture protection.

“As a general contractor, we love new construction as well as the next contractor, but there’s something special about restoring these historic buildings and bringing them into the 21st century that brings a great feeling of satisfaction,” said Tom Quinlan, president of South Coast Improvement Company. “In fact, I’d say it’s probably the most stunning transformation of a property that I’ve been involved with in my 30-plus years in construction.”

Work began on the Atria Marland Place began on November 1 and was completed on time and under budget on May 26, 2015.

Based in Marion, Mass., South Coast Improvement Co is a recognized leader in providing building and renovation services to a client base of senior living, healthcare, institutional and retail clients. For more information, please call 508-748-6545 or visit www.southcoastimprovement.com.
