WORCESTER, MA and FLORENCE, MA…

Nonotuck Resource Associates, an organization that provides shared living and adult family care to hundreds of people with intellectual and physical disabilities, is a keynote sponsor of this year’s Shared Living Conference. Shared living is a service that matches a person with a disability with non-disabled individuals so that they may live together and share their lives in mutually giving relationships.

The Shared Living Conference, now in its 21st year, will be held on Tuesday, September 30, at Holy Cross College, in Worcester, Massachusetts.

“The Shared Living Conference is a great opportunity to exchange practical information and innovative ideas that promote shared living as a model of choice where people can live in a dignified, normative living arrangement,” said George Fleischner, executive director of Nonotuck Resource Associates. “We’re delighted to not only be a keynote sponsor, but an active participant in the workshops and other events.”

Fleischner will conduct a workshop at the Shared Living Conference entitled “Supported Decision Making” with Robert Fleischner, Esq., Assistant Director, Center for Public Representation. The 90-minute workshop will cover a small pilot project developed by Nonotuck and the Center thatenabled 10 individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to make decisions impacting their own lives through the supportive decision making model.

Other workshops to be held at the Shared Living Conference include: Guardianship and Special Needs Planning; Pathways to Community Membership; Understand the Difference of Shared Living and Adult (Foster) Family Care; My Way with Dignity and more. Dan Habib, director of the award-winning documentary Samuel, will be the keynote speaker.
