Nantucket Islanders who have been considering a geothermal heating and cooling solution may want to act soon to take advantage of a Federal Tax Credit on geothermal heat pumps that is available through 2016.

A geothermal heating system takes advantage of the earth’s consistent temperature by way of geothermal heat pumps, which collect energy from the earth and move it to the home via electricity. During the summer, a geothermal system exchanges the heat in the home with the cooler ground, making it up to three times more efficient than standard air conditioning.
