<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: black; font-family: Arial;">The <a href="http://www.marshfieldboysandgirlsclub.com/">Boys and Girls Club of  Marshfield</a> needs volunteers at the event to act as characters such as elves  and chefs.<span> </span>They also need all-around  volunteers to commit to meetings and help with set up and clean up of the event.  <span> </span>Volunteer elves must be 15+ years old  and all other volunteers must be 18+ years old and submit to a CORI background  check.<span> </span>Community service hours will be  awarded to volunteers.<span> </span>Marshfield High  School Girls Varsity Basketball and the Key Club are already on board to help  out with the event.<span> </span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The Boys and Girls Club has already  sold 1,000 tickets and Train Ride 3 is close to being sold out.<span> </span>This event is sponsored by Tiny &amp; Sons  Glass, Rockland Trust and Vertex.<span> </span>All  proceeds from the Polar Express event benefit the privately funded, non-profit  the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield.<span> </span></span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The <a href="http://www.marshfieldboysandgirlsclub.com/">Boys and Girls Club of  Marshfield</a> will be kicking their health and fitness program up a notch or  two thanks to a grant that the club recently received from the U.S. Department  of Education.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><span> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The Boys and Girls Club of  Marshfield has been awarded a Carol M. White Physical Education Program grant of  $374,000 from the U.S. Department of Education.<span> </span>The award, which will be distributed over the next three years, will fund  a new physical education program and instruction on healthy eating and good  nutrition.<span> </span>The U.S. Department of  Education gave out $26.5 million in awards to more than 73 public schools and  community-based organizations in 25 states to initiate, expand and improve  physical education programs for students in grades K-12.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The Boys and Girls Club of  Marshfield intends to use a portion of the grant in the purchase of interactive  multi-media equipment that will be used to engage club members in specially  designed activities that will advance their physical well being and teach them  better nutritional habits. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The club will also look to  collaborate with local schools in the development of various physical fitness  programs.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: black; font-family: Arial;">Camp Chuckles is a  one-week workshop led by Chrissy Kelleher, a teacher and comedian who has </span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">opened shows for Kevin  Nealon and Loretta LaRoche and also appeared on Nickelodeon’s America’s Funniest  Mom.<span> </span>She is joined by <span style="color: black;">fellow comedian and Milton High School Social Studies  teacher and Drama Coach, Jimmy Bowes. <span> </span></span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><strong><span style="font-weight: normal; font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Kelleher  and Bowes taught </span></strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">15-year-old <strong><span style="font-weight: normal; font-family: Arial;">Max  Clary at last year’s </span></strong>Camp Chuckles and he is now a regular  performer at the Comedy Studio in Cambridge.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: black; font-family: Arial;">Camp Chuckles is  geared towards middle and high school students and is a comedy writing and  performing experience that uses improvisation and writing exercises to help kids  turn their funny ideas into stories and jokes.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: black; font-family: Arial;">After the week-long  session, attendees perform in front of family and friends in a Camp Chuckles  graduation show. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: black; font-family: Arial;">Camp Chuckles will be  held from July 20-24 and the cost is $120. <span> </span>The workshop for students entering grades 6-8  will be held from 5:30-7:00 p.m. and the workshop for students entering grades  9-12 will be held from 7:15-8:45 p.m.<span> </span>There is a maximum number of 12 students to each  workshop.</span></p>

This year’s tournament is sponsored by </span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Marshfield</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">’s “Citizens of the Year” Jack and  Beth Griffin of Buythecase.net (Pembroke) who will be playing in the  tournament.<span> </span>Other “local celebs” playing  include Selectman Michael Maresco, Police Chief Bill Sullivan, Fire Chief Kevin  Robinson and Pat Roche, founder of Roche Bros. along with his  sons.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Molly, 18, who is a senior at </span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Marshfield</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> </span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">High  School</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> has been volunteering at the club  three times a week for the past two years.<span> </span>In countless ways, she has made a difference in the lives of members and  at the Boys and Girls Club.<span> </span>Molly has  helped run the “Go Girl Go” program which helps girls build self-esteem.<span> </span>She has also been a part of the Keystone  Club, a dynamic teen program that charters leadership and service to the  club.<span> </span>She led club members in Triple  Play, a wellness program of physical activity.<span> </span>After volunteering so much of her time, Molly recently became a Staff  Member.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span class="style5"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Although her commitment to the Boys  and Girls Club has kept her busy, Molly was very involved in school  activities.<span> </span>She was the captain of the </span></span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Girls High  School Varsity Soccer Team <span class="style5">and previously, a guard on the </span>Girls High School Varsity Basketball team<span class="style5">.<span> </span>She was also involved in the Key Club at  school.<span> </span>Her future plans include  attending Wentworth Institute of Technology in </span></span><span class="style5"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Boston</span></span><span class="style5"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> and studying  Interior Design.</span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">$60,000 was raised in support of programming for more than 4,000 youths in Marshfield and surrounding towns at the recent Boys and Girls Club “An Evening of Stars” Gala and Auction held last week at the Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><span> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">350 people attended the event which was held at a new venue this year.<span> </span>Despite the economy, guests contributed heavily realizing the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield is a great short and long term investment.<span> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">“We took a risk and broke tradition by replacing the venue and changing the date by six months and it was a great success!<span> </span>Our attendance was up by 25 percent; we raised more money than in previous years and our attendees were uniformly happy,” explained Dan Burke, President of the Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors. <span> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">He continued, “Everyone did an amazing job.<span> </span>The Boys and Girls Club gala and auction is all about great people supporting a great cause and doing it with all their heart and soul.”</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">A number of folks were honored during the evening for their dedication to and support of the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield including: State Representative Frank Hynes and his wife Heather; Ed Perry, owner of WATD-FM radio station in Marshfield and Molly Newcomb of Marshfield (who was the recipient of the Roche Family Outstanding Young Adult of the Year Award).</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Marshfield</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> native Jonathan Hall, the Emmy award winning journalist and investigative reporter for WHDH Channel 7 News Boston was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening and caricatures were provided by Building 19’s Mat Brown and talented graphic designer Sue Petersen.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Event attendees enjoyed their five minutes of fame as they were “interviewed” by “Joan Rivers” and the “Blues Brothers” entertained the crowd after a live auction led by Paul Vercollone.<span> </span>Bruins tickets and a Mexican vacation were two “big ticket” items auctioned off at a total of $10,000.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The Friends of the Marshfield Airport, ACT Smart Inc., Sovereign Bank, Roche Bros., William Last &amp; William Chase Builders, BuytheCase.net, Rockland Federal Credit Union, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and Tufts Health Plan sponsored the event.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">According to Greg Jackson, Executive Director of the club, “Nearly $60,000 was raised, which, in this current economy, and for a club our size is a tremendous accomplishment.<span> </span>We made lots of new friends who are interested in our mission and our future and seeing our club not only survive but also grow.” </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">He continued, “The auction items were a hit and we’d like to thank the 315 auction donors for their generous donations and our corporate sponsors for their support in making this event such an overwhelming success.<span> </span>The money raised will enable us to continue to offer great programs to our members.<span> </span>I’d also like to recognize and thank our Board of Directors and Event Committee members for their commitment and dedication.<span> </span>We couldn’t pull off an event like this without their help.”</span></p>
